Doris I didn't misunderstand ANYTHING. Here is your posting to the DumplinTN list. I left it on the DumplinTN list so that you would see what your posting was. I know my family lines and it's very apparent from your posting you don't. Patti Doris, If this is for Marvin Henry, I have replied to him. I guessed that you were "the relative who asked him to test." This is the line for Marvin Henry: Marvin Henry Harvey Odell Henry 1908-1990 (I didn't actually find Harvey and Marvin yet, but I assume that he gave that information correctly. I need to find George Washington Henry in 1910. I think that I tried last night and didn't find them yet. I'll relook in Cocke, Sevier, etc. George Washington Henry 1882-1952 I have the information off his World War I draft card. born May 4, 1882, Sevier Co. TN, white, occupation carpenter, place of work Chilhowee Extract Co. Newport, TN, address when signing his draft card was Newport, TN. Wife Ruby Hernes. (Is that spelled correctly?)According to the draft registration card, he had a medium build, blue eyes, and dark hair. The death date in the book In the Shadow of the Smokies for him is an error. This death date is all over the Internet! His first wife Susan (Susie) Ogle died in April 1880 from typhoid fever. She is on the1880 mortality list as Susan Henry, married. This is the date given erroneously for his death! He married second in late 1880 to a widow, Malinda "Millie" Lewis Dennis. She had already had seven children and then had 3 by Russell Jones Henry. She is on the 1900 census in Sevier Co.TN as a widow again. She owned her own home and farm free and clear. Russell Jones Henry was born 7 Jul 1836, and he died between the conception of his daughter Lillie M. who was born May 1890 and the 1900 census. Russell Jones Henry was the son of William Henry, Jr. and Sally Jones (Sally b NC according to Russell on census) Then William Henry of the Revolutionary War and his wife Elizabeth Jones whom he married in Botetourt Co. VA. William put in his pension that he was born in Berkeley Co. VA, but it was not yet Berkeley when he was born. It hadn't been created yet. He then moved to Botetourt Co. VA and later to Jones Cove, Sevier Co., TN. Berkeley County is the second oldest county in West Virginia and was created (while part of the state of Virginia) in 1772 from the northern third of Frederick County, Virginia. This is now Berkeley Co. WV. So William Henry was actually born in Frederick Co. VA, in what is now Berkeley Co. WV. Is this the cousin, Doris? I gave him the link to join and encouraged him to take the 37 marker if the budget allowed, and the 12 marker at least to get started. Thank you for finding a Jones Cove Henry!!!! Doris Noland Parton > Patti, > > > I think that you misunderstood something in a previous post. Russell Jones Henry's death date is wrong in the cemetery book. The date given for his death is the death of Susan (Susie) Ogle, his first wife. She is given as Susan Henry on the 1880 mortality schedule, and as Susie Ogle Henry on the tombstone. Yes, George Washington Henry is the son of Russell Jones Henry and his second wife. Her name is given on several censuses, marriage record, etc., and it varies from Maranda M. to Millie to Milly. I have seen her name given as Melinda, but I don't have a document with that so I don't know, regardless she was called Millie. You can see that it varies form census to census. I haven't been able to find her in 1870. I was not referring to George Washingston Henry's death date being wrong. I don't know why you thought that I was. > > I spent several hours going straight back with the census, mortality schedule, marriage bonds, etc. That information was given while the individuals were alive. The death certificate information is given by others after a person has died and is not the gospel. It's just one more source, and sometimes it is actually wrong. I can give several good examples with even a parent's name given wrongly. I count it as just one more document. I have tombstones that are wrong, and I have found where often death certificates and death dates on tombstones vary by one day. > > > I have put several posts on the Henry list and many posts on the Henry genforum. We have tested a family that originated in Chester Co. PA, two different Henry lines from WV, one from Ireland, Henrys from assorted states, and several from here. Actually this project's definition starts "East TN, VA, PA" on the website, and they won't let me change that wording, but when reading the next few sentences it states that it is for all Henrys, Hendrys, McHendrys, etc. everywhere. I have grown with the project. I am still intent on sorting our local Henrys, Henrys, and McHenrys; but as a positive by-product, many other people are going to benefit. > > We have a proven descendant of Patrick Henry testing. He is one of only two male Henrys who have been verified by documentation to join an association of Patrick Henry descendants at Red Hill. If there are other Henry males who do have this line, they have not applied or been able to prove their line with proper documentation. His test has been received, but the results are not in yet. Only one of our groups could possible connect with him as our different groups so far have zero percent chance of joining each other in 600 years. So at best one of groups could descend from Patrick, his grandfather, great-grandfather, or other males in his family. Also there are two other surname projects that have some Hendrys,Henrys, McHenrys who could have matches with the Patrick Henry descendant. I hope that one of our group matches. It is also possible that no group that we have tested so far will match. > > I did run Marvin's line exactly right, the same as what you were saying. You misread what I wrote in there somehow. I will not post any line on the website that I can't document. I only go as far as is proven. Since this is your direct line, it seemed so easy to you. It wasn't easy when it had in the cemetery book and all over the Internet that Russell Jones Henry died in 1880 but fathering three children after he died. I had to look up his first wife's death, his marriage later to Millie (Lewis) Dennis, etc. to make sure that it was right, and of course it is. He actually was never on the census with Millie as he married her Oct. 24, 1881, and he was deceased by the 1900 census, but it is evident that he is the father of her three children born after 1881. Marvin has signed up for the project, so your group is now part of the project! It will be about 6 weeks until his results are back. I know we will all be glad to get them. > > > > Also, if you notice the Project says Henry, Hendry, McHendry on its surnames. I am quite aware that any of them could be related to the others. One of our Henry participants has found multiple matches with the McHenrys, who tested in another project, although it is not close in time, and he has been corresponding with them. He has 97% chance of joining their common ancestor in 600 years. > > The draft card probably does say Hall, but I misread the handwriting. I was looking at the actual image. If you have access at a library to ancestry.com, you can look at the card yourself. I don't doubt at all that it was supposed to be Hall, but I couldn't tell what it was. That is the reason that I mentioned it so, so Marvin could correct it for me. I didn't realize this was your your direct line or I could have asked you. > > Doris Noland Parton > > -----Original Message---- > From: pattee@charter.net > Sent: Aug 15, 2005 11:54 AM > To: HENRY-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [HENRY] DNA Project > > Doris Parton & ALL, > I've seen your numerous postings on the DumplinTN list lately in regards to the Henry DNA project. Doris, I know your not related to any Henry?s and think it?s great you have the time and have taken on the task of Henry DNA Project Administrator. I'm sure all the Henry's would be interested in the progress and not just the DumplinTN list. There are numerous Henry's that never heard of the DumplinTN list, let alone subscribe to it. The DNA Project is open to all Henry's and the focus should not be just 3 counties your interested in. By having the discussions on the Henr y list instead of the Dumplin list or both, might even encourage more involvement from additional Henry's. > I?m sure they are others besides myself who would be very interested in seeing results of Alexander Henry the patriarch of ?The Patrick Henry? line. Through my over 30 years of research, through my documentation there are at least 2 possible 3 different Henry lines in Blount Co., TN and one connects into ?The Patrick Henry? line as well as one in Rhea Co., TN, Memphis, MS and NC. With individual's migrating it's hard to say whose connected. There is also Hendry lines that changed their names to Henry. > I have an ancestor from a different line who went from VA to PA, back to VA to NC and finally ended up in TN. I'm quite sure I may have located another son who fought in the Rev. War. This only adds to my theory he was married more than once, I've never thought he waited till he was in his 40's to marry for the 1st time. I have another family line I've been working on that was from CT, one son migrated to VA. These individuals where prior to the Rev. War and records are scant. > Now as far as my Henry's from Jones Cove, Sevier Co., TN, I contacted my cousin Marvin to do the DNA study and he graciously consented, so I put Doris Price & him in contact with each other. Since my uncle Harvey ?O'Dell? left TN as a young man, married and raised his family out west, you won't locate his family in TN. There is NO DOUBT as to whether Marvin is from the Henry's from Jones Cove or not HE IS the grandson of George Washington Henry who was my grandfather also. > I don't know why my grandfather's draft card started he was married to Ruby Hernes, my father & aunt both stated her name was Ruby Hall, I have copies of their marriage license and the funeral home records for her burial. That's my DOCUMENTATION. > George m. Nora Victoria Matthews first, she was Marvin's and my grandmother, George is buried next to her in Jones Cove. I remember his funeral well, I was there. His D.O.D. is correct per the "Shadows of the Smokies' book. He NEVER MARRIED a Susan Ogle. Susannah "Susie" Ogle was his father?s Russell Jones Henry's 1st wife. Russell is buried between his 2 wives. I have been at the cemetery numerous times since I was a child. Susannah is listed on the 1850 Sevier Co., TN Census as SUSANNAH by her parents. > Millie M. Lewis was Russell's 2nd wife and our ggrandmother. Her name was NOT MALINDA as you have stated. I HAVE HER ORGINAL DEATH CERTIFICATE, MARRIAGE RECORDS AND CHURCH RECORDS. I have gone over and over these DOCUMENTED records with numerous people over the years. One individual stated, ?She THOUGHT that?s what her name was?, she never made corrections to what she posted on the Internet. Millie had 5 (FIVE) living children with her husband Joel Dennis not the 7 you have stated. This comes from my father, aunt, cousins and documentation. I have no idea where you are getting you information from but it?s unrelible, I suggest you check your facts. > Over the years, I have graciously given documentation to various cousins on my Henry line which included DOCUMENTATION on Russell's siblings (some left Sevier County, TN never to return). For some unknown reason the documentation WAS CHANGED! Since individual's are not interested in the quality of their compiled work, I've found it impossible to get them to make corrections. Doris Price was with me last year when I asked Sam Maner (the Sevier County Historian) to make CORRECTIONS ON THE LIBRARY PAGE FOR MY HENRY LINE, HE REFUSED. > As far as William Henry Sr. being born in Berkeley County, Virginia verses Frederick County, Virginia as you have stated. Yes, Berkeley County was formed from Frederick County, Virginia, in 1772. It?s also another area to look for documentation. My Certified copy from the Washignton Archieves of his Rev. War Pension application states Berkeley Co., VA. His brother John Henry who settled in the adjoining county of Cocke also states he was born in Berkeley Co., VA per my copy of his Rev. War Pension. It?s very apparent both knew of the change of the county borders when they submitted their pension applications, they swore under oath it was Berkeley County. This was accepted by the US Government. Whatever the reason, I really don't care, I am going by my 173 year old DOCUMENT. I'm just glad they did state Berkeley since it narrowed my research area. Since I have documented William & John Henry?s parents, I?m looking for documentation on their grandparents. I have my theory on! w! > ho they where, but the DNA would clinch it. In fact it would be of a lot of value for connecting numerous lines for everyone. > Patti
Patti, You are correct. The "he" that I was talking about was Russell Jones Henry and not George Washington Henry whom I had been discussing in the previous paragraph. I knew what I was talking about. I just didn't communicate it very well, but when I said that his first wife Susie Ogle Henry died in 1880, I believe you would have known that I was discussing Russell Jones Henry and not his son. Sorry.
