William Lyle Henry b. 20APR1874. This was my GG Grandfather. His story starts off very sad. From the oral history of family members it is said that his parents sold him into indentured servitude when he was 8 or 9 years old. That is where he learned to be a brick layer (which he did for the rest of his life). He managed to work his way out of service, earned money for passage and came to the United States in steerage. He came through Ellis Island before 1896. Stayed in New York a very short time and headed west to Iowa.He married Elma Lela Freeman on 07JUL1896 in Belle Plaine, Benton County, Iowa. Elma was born 09MAY1878. It is said that William Lyle Henry had several brothers and sisters that remained in Ireland and also some that came to the United States. A post card was sent to him from his brother James Henry from Ballymena in the 1930's or 40's. James Henry had a daughter named Iva. He had a sister named Maggie Henry and she married a man named Ed Brady. I am so inter! ested in learning all that I can about the family that had remained there in Ireland and the family that came to the United States. William Lyle Henry became a citizen of the United States on 13OCT1939 when he was 66 years old. On his citizenship certificate it gives a physical description of him. 5'6", 148 lbs, color: White, Complexion: Medium, Eyes: Blue. William died 12MAR1948 in Los Angeles, California. Any information on this family would be gretly appreciated. My e-mail address is madison1@wilnet1.com.
