Children were: George Morrison Henry ( my grandfather ), Charles Morrison Henry, David Morrison Henry, John, James, Lillias Pettigrew Henry,Hannah McGregor Henry and Marian (aka as Minnie). They were all born in Scotland. I have been to Scotland and searched for what information I have, in the General Registers office. I believe that this line of Henry's were all from Bridgeton, Glasgow. My mother was born in Scotland in 1914 and came to the USA when she was 7 yrs old, with her mother in 1923..her father, George, came over here in 1922, with his brother David. He sent for his wife and daughter after he was settled. But he only lived for several months, after they arrived, cause of death unknown.. My mother's name was Jane Gray Henry... Her mother's name was Elizabeth (Robertson) Henry. I would love to here from any relatives. Thank you MJE>

    1. Henry Divorce 1802 of Sevier Co. TN
    2. Doris Noland Parton
    3. Knox County Archives Photocopy Kind of Record - Superior Court, Hamilton District Volume Number - 1804 Docket Number - 983-785 There is a return in the court session January to March Term 1803 that the Sherrif of Sevier County, R (I think abbreviation, Robert) Wear could not find Jane to serve her the divorce papers, "not found in my county." The index says Jane Cook Henry vs William Henry, but it isn't. It should read William Henry vs Jane Cook Henry. She never filed, answered, or appeared. Divorce 1804. (must be when divorce was finally granted.) The first date that William started the divorce was the fourth __________ September 1802. It first was mentioned in a court in the Jan to March term 1803. It says William Henry of Sevier County. On the 11th day of October 1802, Wililam Henry and his lawyer James P. H. Porter made bond to Jane Henry in the penal sum of two hundred and fifty dollars. In other words, if they sue her and she shows up and they don't, she'll get that much money from them. This was a formality, and some people misread it as "Sam Henry" instead of "Jane Henry!" Another signature, prehaps just a witness, is Robert, possibly W. Henry or just Henry with a misshaped "H". I have guessed that this may have been his son. He and Jane could have had a grown son by this time. To the Honorable ___ Judge of the Superior Court of Law for the District of Hamilton in the State of Tennessee The petition of William Henry of the County of Sevier (handwriting looks like it says "Lions" because the S is made funny.) and State aforesaid Humbly Showeth unto your Honour that Some time in the year _______ (year was never filled in) your petitioner married a Certain Jane Cooke And after living with her as a wife for the Space of two years or thereabouts She the Said Jane went off and took all her cloaths And took half the furniture of the house without offering any reason for the Same to your Petitioner neither had he any Knowledge of her said intent untill one Colo (Colonel) John Walker (had to be from Rev. War-Doris) told your petitioner She was preparing to go and before your petitioner Could get to his house he saw her going of(f) Round his fence and your petitioner further states that he went the next day to the house of the Said Colo John Walker when He informed your petitoner Wm She the Said Jane wife to your petitioner Had dishonoured his bed and had been caug! ht Repeatedly in the Act of Adultery with one Frances Redding on which information your petitioner Instituted Suit against Said Riddings for a biemenal (?)Conversus(?) (anybody help out with the Latin or legal terms here?) at theTrial of which said Suit it appeared from the testimony of four witnesses that She the said Jane wife to your petitioner aforesaid had been frequently Caught in the very act of adultery by said witnesses with the Said Riddings nowthingstanding all which conduct of her the Said Jane your petitioner moved by the most tender Regard and affection for his said wife he your petitioner did afterwards take his Said wife home with him again on her professing to have seen the impropriety of her conduct and treated her with all the tenderness and kindness in his power for the space of near two years when the Said Jane again eloped in the absence of your petitioner And without there being any bad differences between your petitioner and the Said Jane and withou! t any the least probable reason known to your petitioner and went of ( off) under the charater of a wife (pretending to be the wife of -Doris) to one Davis to the state of Georgia and leaving three children the smallest of which was at the breast Your petitioner hath never seen nor Known where she went between fifteen and twenty years ago & All which acts the said Jane hath done and Committed without ever being any wise unkindly or illy treated & your petioner in tender Consideration now may order and decree your petitioner to be divorced from the Said Jane his wife And from the bonds of matrimony and that your Honour may Cause Such Rules to be taken on your petitioner's petition as you in you wisdom may think proper for affecting the Same and may it please your Honour Ocotber 2nd 1801. Wiliam Henry This day came William Henry before me, David Campbell one of the Judges of the Superior Court of Law and Equity for the State of Tennessee And made Oath that the facts Contained in the above petition are true to the best of his Knowledge and belief & that the said Complaint is not made out of Levity or by Collusion between him and the said Jane his wife and for the pure purpose of Being freed And separated from each other but in Sincerity and truth for the causes mentioned in said petition Signed William Henry Sworn to before me David Campbell one of the Judges of the Superior Court of Law and Equity for the State of Tennessee Oct. 2 1802, signed David Campbell ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This isn't the Samuel Davis father of Jefferson Davis is it that you are researching? I know that Jefferson Davis's mother was a Jane Cook. I have long been curious if there were a possibility that there was a connection. The time frame is about right because there is no definite proof of where and when Jefferson Davis's parents were married and they had been in several states. There is never a place of marriage AND an exact date given together for them. Jane left with a Davis, but it doesn't give his first name. I am thinking that this was in NC or VA, and pretty definitely not TN. My guess is that the Col. John Walker mentioned in the letter was Col. John Walker born 3Feb 1744 and died 2 Dec. 1809. He was in the Rev. War and he was a planter. He lived at "Belvoir," Albemarle and Orange Counties (boundary changes) VA. He was the son of Thomas Walker and Mildren Thornton. See http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mysourthernfamily/myff/d0099/g000047.html There was also a Col. John Walker in Rutherford Co. NC: See 24041 : http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~fabercove/Groups/Group-1.htm In 1800 there was a Francis Redding in Cumberland Co. NC. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nccumber/2000marapril.htm When one does a search on Francis Redding, one has to do an advanced search to take out all the hits with "Tillou" in them because of the famous Francis Redding Tillou of the Civil War. A Francis Redding/Redden Jr. of the correct age was mentioned in the will of Drury King in Orange Co. NC: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~ahopkins/building/king.htm As William Henry was living in Sevier Co.TN in 1802, I thought I would check any Riddings there. One Riding family son of James Riddings and Susannah Griggs came to Sevier Co. This is this family: MORPHEWS IN EARLY ROWAN COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA On May 12, 1768, "Joseph Murphey" gives consent to the marriage of his ward, Georganna Griggs to James Riddings in Rowan County. In 15 March 1769, "Joseph Murphey" witnesses the wedding of William Riddings to Mildred Head in Rowan County. In 1777, Surry County (established 1771 from Rowan County), William Riddings, Benjamin Burke, Joseph Chadwick, "James Morphew," and others, purchase property in the Ann Elliot estate sale in Surry County. With the non-related Rev. Joseph Murphy living almost next door, these first two rec http://www.planetmurphy.org/pagebuild.php?pagebody1=MorphewJo2.htm I really haven't placed William Henry before Sevier Co. TN in 1802. It would be my guess that he came out of VA, and that the Col. John Walker was the one in Orange and Albemarge Counties VA.

    3. General Information about the DNA testing at: http://www.familytreedna.com/ A participant must be a Henry male and furnish me (the administrator, Doris Noland Parton) with his direct male line back to farthest proven Henry ancestor (no legends listed) who had an East TN connection, in particular Jefferson, Cocke, Sevier, Blount, Greene counties; and/or their connection to Henrys in VA, or PA pre-Revolutionary War. After families meeting these guidelines are in and tested, the project may expand. Right now I am trying to keep it within manageable confines. The primary focus of this study is to sort the different Henry groups that have been in Jefferson, Sevier, Cocke, and closely surrounding counties in East TN. These families seem to have come mostly from PA to VA and then to TN. These Henrys were in America before the Rev. War and appear to have been Scots-Irish. Proven pedigrees will be included. Please no Patrick Henry related legends! Let's just put the facts! Contact admin. with your line to receive a request to join. My hope is to connect this JOHN HENRY to someone >>Thanks Pat Please, let me add to the proliferation of John Henrys in Alabama! My GG grandfather John Henry, son of Alexander Henry and Margaret Cummins, b. Edinburgh 1798, departed around October 1831, possibly with his father Robert and his brother Robert Jr. They proceeded to Mobile, Alabama, possibly via Montreal. John opens a dry goods or cotton brokerage at Conti and Water Streets, Mobile (now a parking deck), with a close friend from Edinburgh, Alexander Stoddart, in 1837, according to the Mobile City Directory. But they both spend summers on their farms in Cranbury, NJ (where John's children are born), and have houses and offices in New York City (as well as San Francisco, by one account). Each witnesses the other's naturalization in New York in the early 1850's. On December 31, 1841, at the age of 43, he obtains a Mobile marriage license and the following day marries Mary McNamara, said to be of County Down, Northern Ireland, and names his son Frederick Porteous Henry for an unrelated friend--oddly, no John Jr., no Robert for his father, and no Alexander for his grandfather. This makes us wonder whether there might have been a previous wife, either in Edinburgh, or before his arrival in Mobile; if so, we know nothing of her or any children, and no mention of them is made in his will cross-filed in both New Jersey and Mobile. John didn't seem to spend much time in Alabama, but a prior wife or their children might have remained there and contributed another John Henry to mix. Can anyone connect with this guy? Cheers, -- Gib Henry

    3. John Henry (age 24) married Anna Harman (age 18) on 7 Oct 1893 in Shelby Co., Iowa. J.J. Miller performed the ceremony. John Henry's parents were John Henry and ? Tency. Anna (Hartman?) Harman's parents were Berta Lewis and William Hartman Does anyone claim this John Henry? I found a note in my grandmother's things that said my grandfather, Judson Dewitt Henry, had some cousins and one was John Henry but it didn't say where he lived or anymore about him. Judson (b. 1879) had grown up in Anita, Cass Co., Iowa which is next to Shelby Co. I am wondering if this John Henry who got married in Shelby Co, Iowa, could be the cousin of Judson. The other cousins listed in the note all had the last name of Baker: M. N. Baker, Lee Baker, Lett Baker, Louise Baker Burnett. The other John Henry I am seeking was born around 1782 in another country, probably Scotland. He was living in Crawford Co., Pennsylvania, when his first child, Abraham, was born in 1919. I am sorry about all the John Henrys. Someone ought to start a special collection on anything about any John Henry. Dawn

    3. I believe but haven't proven he had a son named Evan b. bet. 1785 and 1794 (according to census records). I think this 'may' have been the same Evan that married Nancy Vice dau. of John and Elizabeth Richeson (consent), with John Conkright as a witness, and Mourning Vice providing surety. Of course, that would mean Evan was only about 16 when he married which I would think is unlikely. This Evan later lived beside a Moses Henry, Aaron Henry, and Lydia Henry Beggs around a lot of Penrod families. The other Henry individuals could possibly be siblings of Evan's (John's children) but I don't know that - they could be no relationship. In later census records another Evan (son of Evan Sr.?) about 20 yrs. younger than the Evan b. in the 1785 - 1794 time frame, also living in Clark Co., KY states his father was born in VA. I was just hoping someone had already researched this family. Thanks.
