In various documents, she consistently made a point of using her full middle name: NEVILLE. Her obituary (below) points to connections with the ROANE, MERIWETHER, LEWIS, and HENRY families. Any ideas on connections to the family of Patrick HENRY or the Neville she is pointing to would be most appreciated. Census information suggests a connection to a Harriet Roane and the TALIAFERRO surname. Thanks, Carl. At this point, we have just confirmed that the three exact matches descend from Sameul Henry which we already knew! I am hoping that those of you in this group will go back to our sign-up page and order the extended test that goes to 37 markers. It will (if I understand all I have been reading on the test) possibly differentiate the generations if there is any question of which son of Samuel Henry one descends from, and according to Judy Henry some lines are still not sure on that point. The extended test may not be needed until we get some other Henrys who match that we don't know how they fit! Then we will sure need to test farther. Returning people get special rates. It is fully up to you if you desire to test farther, but I think that the more we know the better we will be able to differentiate, and the better our descendants can use the information. So far out of five tests returned, we have three distinct groups that do not have common ancestors within about 800 or more years: I. The Samuel Henry group of which you are a descendant: <Samuel Henry,Sr. (ca.1730-1797) and his wife Rachel and six sons lived betweenBuffalo and Sinking Creeks in what is now Carter/Washington Co. TN by1775-78. Their sons William (1749 - 1815+) moved to Rhea County TN,James 1751-1790 m. Jean McNABB of Little River Blount Co. TN., Hugh1756-1838 lived at Dumplin Creek, Sevier Co.; John (1760-1816)m.Nancy YOUNG went to Rhea Co.; Samuel, Jr. (1762-1824)to Baker'sCreek Blount Co. TN; and Ezekiel (1764-1820+)lived Lost CreekJefferson Co. TN then to Rhea County. My research site for thisfamily is located at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Creek/7299 Judy Henry jchenry@flash.net Submitted on Wed Aug 11 06:59:21 EDT 1999 II. The Henry Henry (born 1734 or before) group of Augusta and Rockingham Co. (Mt. Clinton, area between Muddy Creek and War Branch) VA and Dumplin Creek of Jefferson Co. TN http://genforum.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?parton::henry::5198.html http://genforum.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?parton::henry::5121.html correction to the above, although John Henry, son of Henry Henry was in the Rev. War, none of Henry Henry's family served at the Battle of King's Mountain. I II. The John Henry group: Bobby Royce Henry who decends from John Henry, Sr. (supposedly from County Down, Ireland, to area of Preston Co., WVA) born 1745. John Henry, Sr. from County Down, Ireland, b 1745, was married three times; by his third wife had Brice Henry (1788-1827); Brice Henry (1824-18640; Brice Siegel Henry (1863-1901); Brice Richard Henry (1897-1972); Bob Henry (1924-living). Of the tests still out, one is from Thomas Henry who lived in Cades Cove area of Blount Co. TN, and is assumed to to the Blount Co. Henry group, but has no proof of it. The test will be very important for descendants of that group. One person is from the George Henry group that was in Cocke Co. TN early on and went to Putnam Co. TN and points west. We have a person testing who descends from Aaron Henry of around Fort Royal, VA, whose father was perhaps William Henry. I am really eager to see if they match any of the above groups. This person testing is 86 yrs. old! 1. Writers Contest - The Yellow Rose of Texas
    2. Trevia W Beverly
    3. O.K., I know that this list is most concerned with the HENRY lines, but I suspect we've got some writers out there who would be interested in this --- Look at that prize! Trevia ___________________________ The 5th Annual Battle of San Jacinto Symposium - Saturday, April 16, 2005 - was the first to unveil the only known signature of Emily D. West (Emily Morgan?). On display from the Philpott Collection - http://libraries.uta.edu/SpecColl/crose04/Philpott.htm - at the University of Texas at Arlington was the contract signed by Emily D. West of Connecticut when she agreed to come to Texas with Captain James Morgan (Morgan's Point fame). It all seems to have begun with William Bollaert's diary . Was the source for the story, as he said, really Sam Houston himself? See William Bollaert's Texas (ed. By W. Eugene Hollon & Ruth Lapham Butler, Norman: University of Oklahoma, 1956). All the buzz about the story originated at that time! Just what role did a small Mulatto woman [free woman of color - or was she?] play in Texas winning the Battle of San Jacinto in 1836 - or did she even play a role? Was the lady in the tent that day Emily Morgan or Emily D. West --- or neither! --- or, are they one and the same? Several of our Symposium speakers noted Emily, posing some very interesting questions (DVD available of the entire Symposium; see below). One book that you'll want to read is Dr. James E. Crisp's Sleuthing the Alamo, Davy Crockett's Last Stand and Other Mysteries of the Texas Revolution (just enter Sleuthing the Alamo in your search engine and see what you come up with! And I'd suggest you read every one of those reviews - but not at the expense of the book itself!). Of course, just go on the Internet and you'll find all sorts of information on 'the Yellow Rose' as well as on Emily Morgan and Emily D. West . just remember that all you read is not fact. It's your job to come up w! ith what you think is the truth! Sponsored by the Friends of the San Jacinto Battleground http://www.freindsofsanjacinto.org and the Emily Morgan Hotel in San Antonio http://www.emilymorganhotel.com Full rules to be posted shortly on both sites. Briefly: Your TITLE will be Dispelling the Myth and Mystery of Emily "Morgan" and "The Yellow Rose of Texas." ELIGIBILITY: Open to any U.S. citizen 21 years of age or older. GRAND PRIZE: A seven day, six night trip to San Antonio, Texas complete with airfare from any major city in the Continental United States including a suite at the Emily Morgan Hotel, all meals at the hotel from the Oro Restaurant & Bar, transportation to and from the San Antonio International Airport. Estimated value is $9,000.00! Trip must be taken by April 16, 2007. For you and guests * verify the number when full rules are on the websites * EVALUATION: Submissions will be on the originality of materials present and the initiative evidence in the presentation. DEADLINE: All entries must be postmarked no later than January 31, 2006 and mailed to The Search for Emily Morgan Contest at 705 East Houston Street, San Antonio, Texas 78205. WINNER: To be announced at the 6th annual Battle of San Jacinto Symposium in Houston, April 2006. You'll want to be there! So when registration is available you may want to register . it's expected to be a 'sellout.' Please share with family & friends.. Organizations, please post. Trevia Wooster Beverly Publicity Chair, Battle of San Jacinto Symposium Houston, Harris County, Texas 713.864-6862 p.s. if you would like to receive the information on the DVDs from all five of the Symposiums, please send a request to treviawbeverly@houston.rr.com - this year's would be especially useful if you plan to enter the contest.
