Tim, I am sorry to hear of the death of your mother. My mother is only 16 years older than I, and so far we are growing old about the same rate! I lost my father some years back. William Lyle Henry b. 20APR1874. This was my GG Grandfather. His story starts off very sad. From the oral history of family members it is said that his parents sold him into indentured servitude when he was 8 or 9 years old. That is where he learned to be a brick layer (which he did for the rest of his life). He managed to work his way out of service, earned money for passage and came to the United States in steerage. He came through Ellis Island before 1896. Stayed in New York a very short time and headed west to Iowa.He married Elma Lela Freeman on 07JUL1896 in Belle Plaine, Benton County, Iowa. Elma was born 09MAY1878. It is said that William Lyle Henry had several brothers and sisters that remained in Ireland and also some that came to the United States. A post card was sent to him from his brother James Henry from Ballymena in the 1930's or 40's. James Henry had a daughter named Iva. He had a sister named Maggie Henry and she married a man named Ed Brady. I am so inter! ested in learning all that I can about the family that had remained there in Ireland and the family that came to the United States. William Lyle Henry became a citizen of the United States on 13OCT1939 when he was 66 years old. On his citizenship certificate it gives a physical description of him. 5'6", 148 lbs, color: White, Complexion: Medium, Eyes: Blue. William died 12MAR1948 in Los Angeles, California. Any information on this family would be gretly appreciated. My e-mail address is madison1@wilnet1.com.

THOMAS C. HENRY Former State Prison Guard Dead at 86 at Watkins Glen, NY Word was received here yesterday of the death at Watkins Glen, NY, of Thomas C. Henry, for 28 years a guard at the Rhode Island State Prison. Mr. Henry, who would have been 86 next month, had been living there for the past two years with a daughter, Mrs. Arthur H. Jackson. The funeral will be held tomorrow at Watkins Glen and burial will be in Knotty Oak Cemetery, Coventry. Later, a memorial service will be held at Franklin Congregational Church, Cranston, in which Mr. Henry was a deacon. Mr. Henry served as a guard at the prison under Gen. Nelson A. Vial, the warden. He was known as an adept handler of tough prisoners and when asked what his rule was, replied that he always kept in his mind there was "a tender spot in the worst of them." Henry was known for the personal interest he took in his work and the prisoners invariably respected him. In addition to his daughter, Mrs. Jackson, one grandchild and a great-grandchild, he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Salmon, of Olneyville. His wife, who was Alice Emeline Whaley, died several years ago.
Joy, I think that this is your line: http://www.rootsweb.com/~scyork/Cemetery/Bersheba.html http://genforum.genealogy.com/allison/messages/3717.html If you haven't already, just go to google.com, and in the search box type "robert allison" "sarah turner" and hit search. You will get about 23 hits, many of them good ones. I also research a Henry / Allison marriage, but there is not connection so far as I know. I am interested in William Henry who married Agnes Allison in Greene Co. TN in 1791 (Jefferson Co. had not yet been created). She was dead by around 1810. He married second to Sally Jones in Jefferson Co. TN in Dec. 1811. If you go to Henry genforum and put in Parton, you will get my posts on Henrys. The ones showing this William Henry's parents and siblings is: http://genforum.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?allison::henry::5121.html correction to this link is that although William's brother John was in the Rev. War, he was not at Kings Mt. William had a brother James, but he is not your James as he married a Greene, also wrong location. http://genforum.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?allison::henry::5198.html ----- Original Message ----- From: <jatkinson11@carolina.rr.com> To: <HENRY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, May 12, 2005 9:47 AM Subject: [HENRY] James and Margaret (Allison) Henry > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: Fincher, Starnes, Griffith, Alexander, Barnes, Woodward, Turner, > Currence, McCarter > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JRi.2ACEB/3265 > > Message Board Post: > > I am Joy Fincher Atkinson, the 4xGreatgranddaughter of Robert Turner born > about 1739. > > According to the Hart research papers located in York, SC, Robert had a > sister named Sarah S.
