Francis Henry (b Abt 1768 d. 1824 Poland Twp., Mahoning Co., OH) was a soldier in the War of 1812. He was given bonus land in IA . The land was transferred to Harrison Henry b 1833 and d. 1898 Ashtabula Co., OH. Harrison Henry was his grandson and my great grandfather. When I find Harrison Henry he is the Postmaster of Pierrepont, Ashtabula Co., OH. Don't know if Harrison ever lived in IA. Can't help but think that if I could find where this bonus land was that I could find another part of the Francis Henry Family of Poland, OH. Any help would be appreciated. Hi Virgene, Well, your message kinda stumped me as the Underwood stands out more than Henry in this case. Our Henrys had been in the US for many years prior to the 1800's. Do your Underwood ancestors date back to Sussex Co. VA? If so I'd be most happy to share information with you regarding this line. The name on the report is definitely spelled Patilla, but I've found reference to the Potillo's around Mecklenburg and Brunswick Counties. Also, a reference to the Patilla or Pattilla surname being Scotch. I've seen so many spellings of this name that there is a good chance the spelling of Pentilo is in this same category. My line regarding this name of Patilla is through a Mason b. 1842 and Henry b. 1846. This Mason's parents were from Sussex and Greensville Counties in VA and also entail the Newsom surname. I look forward to your reply and will be happy to share any information I may have. Carolyn
Carolyn, Would the name be PENTILO by chance? I am looking for an ancestor who d. in Rice Co KS, who had a dau. whose given name was Ellenmary/Ellamary. Mary Underwood SMITH was b. abt.1839, in Hancock Co IN. Her step-brother, Isaac UNDERWOOD b. Hancock Co IN had a dau.Myrtle, who mar. Rob't HENRY b. 1876 in Indiana, fa. b. France and mo. b. Maine. This HENRY family is shown on the 1900 census of Lake Co IN (town of Lowell). I have a Thomas Henry b. 1827. He was the son of Joel Henry. I know nothing else about him except that he had a sister Jamima Caroline b. 1828 and a brother James b. 1831. Jamima was born in Randolph Co. NC. I would love to learn more about this family as my husband is descended from Jamima. Carol C. Odell

My father was Will A. Henry son on John & Lou. I started out trying to find the "Cherokee" relationship, its not there. I have traced Thomas and Minerva to 1850 in the Georgia Census. I can't find anything on Thomas before 1850. I have a new clue and I am currently checking out a Thomas C. Henry in South Carolina. In the 1850 Census Thomas is listed as being born in Tennessee and Minerva and William in South Carolina, John in Georgia. In the 1860 Census Minerva, William & John were back in Tennessee Thomas was not listed. We have many stories about Thomas and I have tried to document all and have not been successful. The Cherokee is one of the stories. I have checked with the Historical Society Indian section and was told if Thomas or John ever listed himself as white he lost his Indian Heritage. I have also found a Thomas Henry in Alabama with a mother who was a Choctaw. If you have a last name for Minerva I would appreciate knowing what it was. This is another way we will find Thomas. Wish you good luck

I noticed on a recent HENRY Family posting that a THOMAS HENRY was a Cherokee scout. I'm wondering if James Henry, father of Mary Henry who m. John Massey (b. 1788 or 1789), of Lincoln County, North Carolina, might have also been Native American or of NA ancestry? Many thanks, Bill Most sincerely, William R.
