    2. In a message dated 8/24/2005 6:03:21 P.M. Pacific Standard Time, pattee@charter.net writes: In the over 30 years of researching the Henry's, I have rarely seen a middle name given prior to 1800 and this is not just in the Henry lines In the time frame when 'everyone' was a Catholic, people had middle names. There was the one given by the parents, then a Saint's name given at Baptism, and then another 'middle' name taken at time of Confirmation. Per census reports, etc. a grandfather was named William, Enough for census taker. Didn't need it that he was baptized Joseph, confirmed as David. Usually the 1st middle name was used when mama was mad, as Come Here William Joseph, to make sure she got HER own William. At time of marriage my husband's confirmation name was included by the Priest, as in "Do you, William Joseph David, take.." Enough of that. Madora

    3. HENRY, John W. born 1843/44 place Either W. VA or VA or PA. Some of his papers have him listed born in VA. Jefferson County. Some list his birth place as Jefferson County PA. He was in the Michigan County of Branch living on a 80 acre farm married to Mary Elizabeth Ramsdill in Butler Twp. prior to 1877. He served in the civil war with Battery D 1st Michigan Light Artillery Unit. He sold the farm on Sept 25, 1877, and for some reason was in Texas in 1880 when he accidentally shot and killed his self while hunting. He was with some fellows named KIDDER 's when he died also it appears his wife and 3 kids were also with him. He died on Aug 17, 1880 25 miles north of Stone Wall, Luckin TX. By the way he is related to Day/Ramsdill/Haight also of the area. D.Clark Day born 1854 in Butler Twp., Branch County was a cousin I have his funeral obit. I have been to Red Hill in VA., and talked to Patrick Henry's genealogist there. If you were to put the pictures of those Henry's to my Henry's you would think they must be related. However have not found a direct connection. I need to find John W. Henry's parents in order to see if their is a connection. My wife is a Henry. Any help much appreciated. Thanks Clayton E. 1. DNA
    2. I'm very please to annouce my cousin Marvin sent out his DNA sample Friday. I will make sure the results are posted to the Henry list. We decend from William & Elizabeth "Jones" Henry. William served in the Rev. War from Botetourt Co., VA. William and his brother John, both stated in their Rev. War pension application they "where born in the State of Virginia, Berkley County and shortly removed by his parents to Botetourt County in Va." The brothers migrated from Botetourt Co., VA, William, settling in Jones Cove, Sevier Co., TN, John, settling in Cosby, Cocke Co., TN. residing about 10 miles from each other. It's believed they had a brother Robert (per William Henry's land grant: lying in the District south of the French Broad and Holston on the East Fork of the Little Pigeon River and bounded by the lands of Robert Henry) which is the only documentation for any Robert Henry residing in Sevier County for that time frame. I will add that there was a courthouse fire in both Cocke & Sevier County courthouses, all the early records where lost, but there is a paper trail. There is a Robert Henry in Cocke County no documentation is available from the courthouse and no records for a Robert Henry serving in the Rev. War. from Cocke County. He may have served and died prior to having the opportunity to apply for a pension. It's believed he was a younger brother. I have documented other siblings for William & John but have not located anything for any Robert at this time. In the over 30 years of researching the Henry's, I have rarely seen a middle name given prior to 1800 and this is not just in the Henry lines. To add to the confusion William, John, Hugh, Robert and James are very common given names which only adds to the mystic of the Henry's. My William Henry m. Elizabeth Jones and his son William Henry Jr. m. Sally Jones. I've had an easier time researching these lines than my Henry's. Despite what numerous people believe, through my documentation they where NOT RELATED LINES. Families migrated together, with my Henry's they migrated with Elizabeth's maternal line which I have documented in the adjoining county. Patti

    1. Henry family in Union County Kentucky
    2. Looking for any information on the James Henry family. I really don't know when exactly James was born there is a big difference in ages on the census's. He married a Susie Marham or Markhaus,I don't know if this is his only wife. He had a son named George Franklin Henry born April 1865, who married Fannie Fisher, daughter to Morris Fisher . She was born on Dec. 16, 1865. George and Fannie both died in Union Co. and both are buried in Mt. Olive cemetery. If anyone has a listing of Mt. Olive cemetery i would appreciate a look up to see if James and Susie are buried there. I also know nothing about the Fisher side of the family at this time. Is there a way to get copies of Georges and Fannies obit's? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Carol

    2. Do you know for sure that your grandfather was for sure born with the last name Henry? If so, and you have a male descendant of his, you could join our Henry DNA Project to help you find the group that he belonged to. You could also go to a library that has Heritage Quest, and do search of Texas in 1920, and look at the Henry families who were there. It would narrow down your search somewhat. ----- Original Message ----- From: <gibbs3@comcast.net> To: <HENRY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, August 21, 2005 2:20 PM Subject: [HENRY] Henry, born 2/28/1920 Fort Worth TX > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: Henry > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JRi.2ACEB/3307 > > Message Board Post: > > Any connections out there to the following? 3. Hi Carol, Marie, I read your message board posts. My maternal grandmother was Zada (HENRY) MCCOLLUM b 1874; she was d/o Harrison HENRY and Belinda MCCREARY. I have a file of related HENRYs and other Scots-Irish that came to Eastern OH and Western PA, most from Washington Co., PA, and some from the area between Chester Co., PA and DE. There are a few HARRISONs, which I haven't done much work on yet. If you go to the rootsweb search page http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi and search on Zada Henry, one of the files you get will be mine -- it is called "henrymac." Some of the surnames are the same as you have mentioned. HARRISON is the one I am most interested in right now. 3. In doing my genealogy of my father's family, I have found two adopted Great Great grandfathers. I would not have known if a distant relative that I came across last year had not told me. None of it is listed in any official papers I have found. I am researching the family anyway, as if there were no adopted ancestors. I am telling you this because some of you may think you have the wrong family line because your DNA was not right. You may have some ancestors like mine. In my case, the adopted GGGrandfathers were always in the wives' lines and not the Henrys but it could be that some of you have this situation in your male Henry line. You may be tracing the right family but not match up with the right DNA. Dawn

    2. Patti, You are correct. The "he" that I was talking about was Russell Jones Henry and not George Washington Henry whom I had been discussing in the previous paragraph. I knew what I was talking about. I just didn't communicate it very well, but when I said that his first wife Susie Ogle Henry died in 1880, I believe you would have known that I was discussing Russell Jones Henry and not his son. Through my over 30 years of research, through my documentation >> there are at least 2 possible 3 different Henry lines in Blount Co., TN >> and one connects into ?The Patrick Henry? line as well as one in Rhea >> Co., TN, Memphis, MS and NC. With individual's migrating it's hard to say >> whose connected. There is also Hendry lines that changed their names to >> Henry. >> I have an ancestor from a different line who went from VA to PA, back to >> VA to NC and finally ended up in TN. I'm quite sure I may have located >> another son who fought in the Rev. War. This only adds to my theory he >> was married more than once, I've never thought he waited till he was in >> his 40's to marry for the 1st time. I have another family line I've been >> working on that was from CT, one son migrated to VA. These individuals >> where prior to the Rev. War and records are scant. >> Now as far as my Henry's from Jones Cove, Sevier Co., TN, I contacted my >> cousin Marvin to do the DNA study and he graciously consented, so I put >> Doris Price & him in contact with each other. Since my uncle Harvey >> ?O'Dell? left TN as a young man, married and raised his family out west, >> you won't locate his family in TN. There is NO DOUBT as to whether Marvin >> is from the Henry's from Jones Cove or not HE IS the grandson of George >> Washington Henry who was my grandfather also. >> I don't know why my grandfather's draft card started he was married to >> Ruby Hernes, my father & aunt both stated her name was Ruby Hall, I have >> copies of their marriage license and the funeral home records for her >> burial. That's my DOCUMENTATION. >> George m. Nora Victoria Matthews first, she was Marvin's and my >> grandmother, George is buried next to her in Jones Cove. I remember his >> funeral well, I was there. His D.O.D. is correct per the "Shadows of the >> Smokies' book. He NEVER MARRIED a Susan Ogle. Susannah "Susie" Ogle was >> his father?s Russell Jones Henry's 1st wife. Russell is buried between >> his 2 wives. I have been at the cemetery numerous times since I was a >> child. Susannah is listed on the 1850 Sevier Co., TN Census as SUSANNAH >> by her parents. >> Millie M. Lewis was Russell's 2nd wife and our ggrandmother. Her name was >> NOT MALINDA as you have stated. I HAVE HER ORGINAL DEATH CERTIFICATE, >> MARRIAGE RECORDS AND CHURCH RECORDS. I have gone over and over these >> DOCUMENTED records with numerous people over the years. One individual >> stated, ?She THOUGHT that?s what her name was?, she never made >> corrections to what she posted on the Internet. Millie had 5 (FIVE) >> living children with her husband Joel Dennis not the 7 you have stated. >> This comes from my father, aunt, cousins and documentation. I have no >> idea where you are getting you information from but it?s unrelible, I >> suggest you check your facts. >> Over the years, I have graciously given documentation to various cousins >> on my Henry line which included DOCUMENTATION on Russell's siblings (some >> left Sevier County, TN never to return). For some unknown reason the >> documentation WAS CHANGED! Since individual's are not interested in the >> quality of their compiled work, I've found it impossible to get them to >> make corrections. Doris Price was with me last year when I asked Sam >> Maner (the Sevier County Historian) to make CORRECTIONS ON THE LIBRARY >> PAGE FOR MY HENRY LINE, HE REFUSED. >> As far as William Henry Sr. being born in Berkeley County, Virginia >> verses Frederick County, Virginia as you have stated. Yes, Berkeley >> County was formed from Frederick County, Virginia, in 1772. It?s also >> another area to look for documentation. My Certified copy from the >> Washignton Archieves of his Rev. War Pension application states Berkeley >> Co., VA. His brother John Henry who settled in the adjoining county of >> Cocke also states he was born in Berkeley Co., VA per my copy of his Rev. >> War Pension. It?s very apparent both knew of the change of the county >> borders when they submitted their pension applications, they swore under >> oath it was Berkeley County. This was accepted by the US Government. >> Whatever the reason, I really don't care, I am going by my 173 year old >> DOCUMENT. I'm just glad they did state Berkeley since it narrowed my >> research area. Since I have documented William & John Henry?s parents, >> I?m looking for documentation on their grandparents. I have my theory on! > w! >> ho they where, but the DNA would clinch it. In fact it would be of a lot >> of value for connecting numerous lines for everyone. >> Patti > > > ==== HENRY Mailing List ==== > http://rwguide.rootsweb.com/ > Rootsweb Guide to doing genealogy > Lessons for self-help > > ============================== > Search the US Census Collection.
