I'm looking for information on the family of Emma Mason Henry, b. 1857, Benton Co., AR, married Thomas Lewis Kerr, 1877 in Cooke Co., TX, died in Montague Co., TX. I think her sister Margaret "Maggie" Henry married a brother of Thomas Kerr. Carolyn McCoy

I tie more to the Henry/Denton clan in the Montgomery County, KY area...however these are cousins. Lewis (Louis) Henry 1821-1869 m. Catherine "Kitty" Rule. They are found in Eastern KY areas of Floyd, Morgan, Magoffin. Lewis seems to have served CSA. However, most of Kitty's kin served Union including the Friend, Dixon, Patrick, Rule, and Turner clans. Lewis was at one time sherriff of Floyd County, as were the Rule bunch. Friend family also constables, magistrates, attorneys etc. They all interacted on a daily basis. The Friend and Rule clans leave KY by 1870 either because of political pressures (folks didn't take kindly to Union sympathizers) and/or a epidemic that wiped out many of the kinfolk. The Friend/Rule/Dixon bunch winds up in Lawrence Co, OH near Ironton. Possibly, the Henry cousins went with? I dunno. Some of Lewis Henry's kids went to OKLAHAMA...and my Denton/Friend bunch seem to have visited/followed them for a time. Hope this might give you a lead...if you can follow my ramblings! LOL Joyce

There is a Sarah and a Sarah D listed in the Lawrence County Ohio Genealogy Website. They are both in the 1850 census, Upper Twp, pags 460 & 478. I hope to look these up next time I get to the library. Based on the marriage date of 1856, She would have been a contemporary of James Henry and Sarah Gorman- Henry - who were the parents of James O., Levi and John M. who I know are relations. If you can every show relationship to Brice Henry, his mother was a cousin to Robert E. Lee ( I think it was 5th cousin 2x removed, but I haven't done the countin in a while. Let me know if any of your research crosses any of my names. Greg

Henry (1852-1916), his brothers James O and Levi, from Ironton, Lawrence County, Ohio. Parents were James Henry and Sarah Gorman. My gr-grandmother Alberta (b.29 Oct 1882) was raised by John M. Henry but may have been adopted. Family bible said she was born in Ironton, but an older census record said Tenn. One of my fathers cousins that lived with Alberta when she was young said she was told that she was born in Chatanooga. Since most adoptions in that time were children of other family members or good friends. I think that if she was adopted she may have been a close relative anyway. Any help would be appreciated..

As far as I know my gr-grandmother Alberta was the only child they raised and there is even some question as to if she may have been adopted. John M did have brothers names Levi and James O.Henry that had children about that time though. Their parents were James Henry and Sarah Gorman-Henry. Sarah later shows up (1880) as a widow with the last name Raybold. John and one sister still lived with her along with a couple half brothers. Some of the Henry family from Ironton/Ashland are distand relatives of Robert E. Lee.

I believe that Elizabeth the second oldest daughter of her family was born in GA in 1804 and moved with her family to Alabama around 1818, settling in the Monroe/Wilcox county area. I believe that she was my great great grandmother having married Jesse Council Bethea as her first husband. I have reason that she remarried after his death to either a Miller or a McMillan. Would appreciate any information on Elizabeth Henry and her marriages and her death, which I believe occurred before 1856.

I am working on my family genealogy and can't seem to find any information on the name. I was told that my grandfather was part chinese. His middle name was PONGCO. Pongco was his mothers maiden name. Is your last name of chinese decent ? If so, where did it originated ? I know its not the same as PONGCO but it's close enough. I was told that the "CO" was placed at the end as a sign of respect, like the Japanese adding SAN to the end of their name when speaking . It's the same concept as Mr or Mrs. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Is there any record of John Henry-or his children moving to NY state? My g grandmother was Jane HENRY born in 1830 in Lamont, NY (Genesee or Livingston,or Alleghany county then, depending on borders). She was adopted shortly afterwards. Papers are sealed. In Beer's history of Wyoming county(made from Genesse and Alleghany) there is mention of a Rev. Henry as pastor of a chuch in Gainesville in 1815. Do you know of such a Henry?

My g grandmother was Jane Henry, born 1830 in Lamont, NY. She was adopted at a very early age by the Campbell family of PIke, NY. Theory is:1) parents died with some epidemic, 2) parents were going west and couldn't take a small baby or child. I realize there is a 15 yr difference in the birth dates, but it not impossible. PLease e-mail me if you get and leads.

For unknown reason she was adopted by the Campbells soon afterrwards. I believe the two families were related, but haven't proved it. From Gen Circles today I found a Samuel Henry, born possibly in Canada, m. Elisabeth Campbell, and she died July 1830 when she was about 35. She was my g grandmother. Wondering if Francis ( father of you Jane) had brothers who might have come to America and had a daughter Jane. A long shot, but I have NO Henry genealogy behind Jane Henry. She was adopted by Campbells, so perhaps her parents died or ?had too many children,? were moving West. Any sugestions welcome.
