    2. Ian Marr
    3. After a long period of time, during which it must have felt as though Ancestry had abandoned our mailing lists, they are spending a lot of time and effort into bringing the software up-to-date. The entire mailing list system is being transitioned from Mailman-2 over to Mailman-3. The new system will see many changes in the way we do things, but will give us a stable approach into the future. One of the biggest and most immediate changes is that you must re-register as a member of the Mailing System - this does not mean you need to re-register for every list individually, but simply as a new user of Mailman-3. To do this go to: https://home.rootsweb.ancestry.com/listindexes/setupmail/ and follow the instructions there. To contact me (the List Administrator for HENDERSON-AUS) you will need to send a message to: [email protected] To contact the Rootsweb help desk, the address is: [email protected] To send a message to the list, send it to: [email protected] To see a FAQ on list etiquette, rules, etc. go to: http://www.ianmarr.net.au/FAQ.html To see/search the list Archives, visit: https://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/hyperkitty/list/[email protected]/ To unsubscribe from the list, send a message with JUST "unsubscribe" in the subject and body to: [email protected] To subscribe to the list, send a message with JUST "subscribe" in the subject and body to: [email protected] It is going to take time as the changes are monumental, so please bear with us (List Admins) and Ancestry staff as we battle it out. ======== Regards, Ian MARR at 38° 24' 01.299" S by 142° 34' 11.9094" E; 6m above sea level Remember, to EVERY question in life, there is MORE than ONE correct answer. 1. [HENDERSON-AUS] Let's Get some action into the List!!!!!
    2. Ian Marr
    3. A check of the archives indicates that the list has been very quiet for some time, so I thought I would liven things up a bit by inviting a "roll call". That is, let's re-post our interests and see what happens. My somewhat meagre HENDERSON connection will be posted shortly. Also, it might be worthwhile to visit the list FAQ. This will probably appear at first sight to be some sort of draconian attemp to impose law & order, but it is simply meant as a general guide, that if adhered to, will ensure we all get maximum results and maximum enjoyment from our list participation. The points made in the FAQ almost certainly apply to EVERY list that we belong to - I have simply tried to put it into words. You can find the FAQ at: http://home.vicnet.net.au/~marr/FAQ.html So, onward and upward, let's get into the roll-call - and don't forget, meaningful Subject lines please :-) Regards, Ian MARR List Administrator: HENDERSON-AUS

    3. My GG Grandfather, George Cunnigham Henderson was born (baptised on 8 March 1840 at Kelton, Kirkudbrightshire) to James Cunningham Henderson & Jane McKnaught of Castle Douglas. He emigrated from Scotland in 1861. He settled in Bung Bong, Victoria, Australia and raised 13 children. His grandparents were Agnes Cunningham and Andrew Henderson of Parton (at the time of James' birth). I have traced Agnes' family back to 1751 in the parish of Parton. Despite many searches, I have not been able to find the birth reg or marriage reg for Andrew Henderson. Seeing the family name of Cunningham occurs in both families, do you think there is a connection? 3. I am trying to find living descendants of James Cunningham HENDERSON of CASTLE DOUGLAS, KIRKCUDBRIGHTSHIRE, SCOTLAND. James (my great, great great grandfather) was born in 0I/08/1813 (PARTON) & died 09/10/1887 in CASTLE DOUGLAS. He married twice. His first wife was Jane MCKNAUGHT (born 03/06/1802 in BUITTLE, died 14/05/1846 in CASTLE DOUGLAS) aged 44 years. His second wife was Christina Muirhead (died 28/07/1883 in CASTLE DOUGLAS) aged 57 years. Although my great great grandfather (George Cunningham HENDERSON) was the son of Jane & James, I am also tying to trace any of James & Christina’s descendants. Three of his progeny (William, 35 yrs, Christina, 28 yrs, & Elizabeth 26 yrs were still living in the family home at 29 KING Street, CASTLE DOUGLAS on the 1891 census. Are there any living relatives that I can confirm my research with? Best regards Robert James HENDERSON

Hi Michelle I will be at the local LDS library on Friday, so will have a look at the Victorian BDM records and see if I can find anything. Do you have any approximate dates of their coming to Australia? Have a look at Australian Shipping - http://www.blaxland.com/ozships/page.htm - but there does not appear to be a relevant Henderson I have also had a quick look at the WA State Records as most vessels came to Australia with a first landfall at Perth. You might also like to check to see if anything works http://www.sro.wa.gov.au/collection/passenger.asp#indexes You might also like to have a bit of a look at Cora's site http://www.coraweb.com.au/shipindex.htm, which might help. I shall get back to you after I have been to the LDS on Friday. Best Regards Michael

I am not sure how they got to Australia but she worked in "The Refuse" in Melbourne in the 1870s. We think that may be a reference to one of the Melbourne refuges. Consequently after she married to Robert SEATON in 1881, their property in the Upper Murray district was nicknamed "The Bin". Alex HENDERSON and Margaret HEADRICH (HEADRICK) had the following children Robert, Margaret Elizabeth, Jessie Ann, Alexander, David, James and John Arthur. If anyone has any info for me I would be very happy. Regards, Michelle
