Hello, My HENDERSON and KERR ancestors reportedly were born in Sligo, Ireland, during the 1780 to 1805 timeframe ! They left as a "family group" in 1823 and settled in Argenteuil County, Quebec, Canada ! A long-time researcher, and "many" other researchers have never been able to find out who the parents were of these 4 couples and one single lady ! I borrowed the book, "History of the Counties, Argenteuil, Quebec, Prescott, Ontario, ......" this week on inter-Library loan, and it has a paragraph on William HENDERSON, which starts out: "William Henderson came from the parish and county of Sligo, and settled here in 1824 ...... He had 14 children, eight sons and six daughters, all of whom save one son lived till maturity. ......" Yet, a few other researchers and I paid a "research fee" to the County Sligo Research and Heritage Centre, and they were not able to find any records for these HENDERSON's and KERR's in "Sligo Town." They said that there is the chance that they lived in the outskirts of the County ! From belonging to the IRL-SLIGO List, I have found out that there were KERR's living in the Calry Parish in Sligo, and other Parishes in that area, back into the mid-1700's and continuing into the 1800's. But, I don't believe I heard too much about HENDERSON's being in that area. (I'll have to review my postings to that List - to see if my memory is working this morning.) I was told that, because all these KERR's and HENDERSON's were inter-married, their families probably traveled with each other - possibly going back and forth from Scotland to Ireland in the mid-1700's ! ... I was wondering how many others had a HENDERSON living in County Sligo, Ireland - during the 1700's .. or the early 1800's ! Because we have no idea who their parents were, we also don't know if they had siblings who remained in Ireland -- or siblings who traveled to other parts of Canada or the U.S. around the same time (1820's and 1830's). The following couples had probably 50 children between them, so have "many" descendants ! William and Mary (KERR) HENDERSON Samuel and Catherine (?) HENDERSON Patrick and Elizabeth (KERR?) KERR Miss Elizabeth KERR (married in Canada) John and Ann (HENDERSON) KERR (They seem to have had 2 relatives, Dawson KERR and James KERR, who initially settled in other areas.) (Wouldn't surprise me at all to find out Catherine's maiden name was KERR.) I know "many" HENDERSON's arrived in both Canada and the U.S. during the early 1800's, but no one, that I know of, has been able to make a definite connection with the HENDERSON's who went to Argenteuil County ! Thank you for your time ! Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) P.S. I heard the expression "double cousins" yesterday, and my ancestors were cousins, Robert KERR and Elizabeth HENDERSON, b1827 Canada. If their parents were cousins to each other, would that mean I have "double cousins" on my family-tree, also?
