She was born in Bethania on Jan. 8, 1917, to Walter Thomas and Nellie Spainhower Strupe. She married Harry P. Henderson on Aug. 11, 1939. He preceded her in death in 1968. Over the years, she was employed by H.T. Hearn Engraving, Chatham Manufacturing, and the Remnant Shop. Her many talents included sewing, knitting, and needlework. Also, she made the best pound cakes in the world. Edith is survived by three sisters, Frances S. Conrad of Nashville, TN, Elaine S. Callahan of Greensboro, and Mary S. Conrad (Joe) of Bethania. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews; great-nices and great-nephews; and a great-great-nephew. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today, Nov. 27, at Bethania Moravian Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Wayne Byerly and the Rev. Charles Fishel. Interment willk follow in Bethania Moravian Graveyard. The family will receive visitors in the church fellowship hall after the service. Memorials may be made to Bethania Moravian Church, P.O. Box 170, Bethania, NC 27010. Sincere appreciation is extended to the administrave and nursing staff at the Masonic and Eastern Star Home for taking 'real good care' of Edith and for the many kindnesses to her family.
