Hello, I am really new at this but hope someone out there recognizes my Henderson family and can help. I apologize if I am not using the correct format but I will learn as I go along. This is all I know so far. Most was gathered from cemeteries and obituaries. I am finding it very difficult to differentiate between Pleasant's and Alexander's in this family to find the correct line. John Wimbish Henderson John Wimbish Henderson, son of Malinda nee Wimbish Henderson and Dr. Alexander Henderson, grandson of Col. Pleasant Henderson (of the Transylvania Company) and cousin of Dr. Archibald Henderson (of the University of Virginia). John Wimbish Henderson was born in Charlotte, N.C. on October 7, 1855, parents: Dr. Alexander Henderson and Malinda Wimbish. John moved to Sherard, Mississippi with his family at the age of four (abt. 1859). At the age of twelve, his father died (abt. 1867), John his mother and his family moved back to Virginia. Which would lead you to believe Alexander Henderson died in Mississippi, possibly due to injuries or illness from the Civil War. I believe by then he had at least two sisters: Fannie nee Henderson Gardner Lesley born in North Carolina, and Sarah Leigh nee Henderson Greene, born 1853 died 1930 buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Tunica, Ms. John Wimbish Henderson, moved back to Mississippi in 1888, to Holly Springs. He practiced law with a partner whose last name was Chalmers (or Chambers). He married Josephine Stephens, in 1900. Josephine was born in Hickman, Ky in 1868 and died in Tunica, May 29, 1931. He resided in Tunica, Ms. until his death in 1933. He was an attorney in Tunica with a partner but I'm not sure who. He was a writer, a poet, an inventor and the elected County Superintendent of Tunica Dept. of education from 1896, to 1913. He was the Tunica County State legislator, and ran for governor of Mississippi. He organized the 2nd Mississippi Infantry Company E , during the Spanish American War and was made a Captain. The 2nd Ms. never saw action but he was promoted to Major and later served as a Colonel in Gov. Noel's staff in Mississippi.
