Hi Carole: John and Susannah's places of birth are uncertain, but they were married in Union County, South Carolina about 1802. By 1810, they were in Claiborne County, TN, where the family settled. The children of John and Susannah were: Thomas Henderson Stone 1802 SC Reuben Floyd Stone 1804 SC Mary Polly Stone 1806 SC Elizabeth Stone 1808 VA Lucinda Stone 1809 TN John Stone 1812 TN Susannah Stone 1814 TN John Thomas Stone died of illness in Fort Claiborne, Alabama Territory in 1815 while serving in the War of 1812. My husband is descended from John Thomas Stone and Susannah Henderson, through their son Reuben Floyd Stone and Fetney Hurst. In several places I have seen "trees" that say Susannah was born about 1793, the daughter of Thomas Henderson and Elizabeth McGhee. A few of these trees give Susannah's birth as about 1780, but still list her as the daughter of Thomas Henderson and Elizabeth McGee. This is not possible. If Susannah were born in 1793, that would make her only 9 years old at the birth of her first child. In her application for John Stone's military pension, she states that her first child, Thomas Henderson Stone, was born in 1802. In addition, she places herself as age 40-50 in the 1830 census, which would place her birth between 1780 and 1790, a much more likely scenario. If Susannah were born 1780, then she is not likely to be the daughter of Thomas Henderson and Elizabeth McGhee, as they were both born about 1770, and would have been only 10 years old at her birth. There are also some trees which list Susannah as the daughter of Thomas Henderson and Elizabeth Riggs (also unlikely), and there seems to be some confusion as to whether the Thomas Henderson who married Elizabeth McGhee/McGee and Elizabeth Riggs is the son of Thomas Henderson and Elizabeth Morrison or the son of John Andrew Henderson and Mary Russell. Does anyone have any input on this? (I won't get into the confusion over who John Thomas belongs to yet...)
