This conflicts with statements made by one of his sons and one of his granddaughters that James's wife was Sarah. The bond DOES exist, however, the clerk who made it obviously made some big errors. I have a copy of the bond from the Greensboro Public Library. At the top of the bond, the groom's name was first listed as Holliday, which was then crossed out, and Henderson inserted. In the body of the bond itself is stated "that whereas the above bound John Holliday hath made application for a license for a Marriage to be Celebrated bet[ween] him & Anne Cahoon. A bond WAS issued for John Holladay and Anne Cahoun on July 20. I can only imagine what caused the clerk to make this error, but it obviously IS an error and there is no reason to assume that James Henderson was ever married to Anne Cahoon, given the obvious errors on the marriage bond and the testimony of two close relatives to the contrary. Don't ever trust transcriptions to establish anything important in your family tree. Too often what is basically a falsified record ends up in publication. A transcription is good for a finding aid, but that's all.
