    1. [HENDERSON] Announcing New List: LAURENTIDES
    2. Betty
    3. Hello, I would like to tell you that I have just started up a new List. I mean it to include research for all the Counties which exist north of the St. Lawrence River in the Province of Quebec. I am aware that many of the Counties have now been grouped into "municiopalities." For instance: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argenteuil_Regional_County_Municipality%2C_Quebec I am also aware that for residents of the U.S., the place-name, Laurentides, might not be familiar. As a resident of the U.S., I had to learn about it myself. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laurentides_(region) I also had to learn about the Laurentian Mountains: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laurentian_mountains I had thought about naming a new List for "Argenteuil County," because that is where some of my ancestors settled. * But I needed to include a much larger area. I thought about naming it, Laurentian Mountains, but found out there was Message Board for LAURENTIDES. So I decided to use the same name. This is the information page: http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/CAN/LAURENTIDES.html I have also found out that the area - north of the St. Lawrence - is often referred to as the Southwest part of the Province of Quebec. But, some refer to as "Quebec North." But, if you look at a map of Canada, you will see that the Province is very large, and there is a very large part of the Province which is MUCH north of the St. Lawrence River. Thank you for your time. Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) List Administrator for: LAURENTIDES@rootsweb.com CAN-USA-MIGRATION@rootsweb.com (I allow both genealogy and history and geography on my new Lists.) * About 5 years ago someone started up a List for "the former Township of Gore" in Argenteuil County. Some postings are about bordering towns. My ancestors were part of a KERR / HENDERSON family-group which settled there in 1820's.)
