Hello, Someone just told me about a book which is available at Google / Books: "Names of Irish Passengers to America: Over 7,000 with Dates, Ports and Ships ...." by O'Laughlin ... I found out it has 3 HENDERSON names mentioned where they left County Sligo, Ireland: James HENDERSON going to Newport, RI, in 1811 William and Helen HENDERSON going to New York in 1815 Robert and Margaret HENDERSON going to New York in 1816. These people were "coming to America" only about 8 to 12 years before my ancestors, William and Mary (KERR) HENDERSON, left County Sligo in 1823 or 1824 and went to Canada. (And, William's older brother, Samuel HENDERSON, and his wife were with them.) I was just curious if there could be some connection between these families. Also, another book on-line at Google / Books has a title which starts out with: "History of Argenteuil County ......" That is where the HENDERSON / KERR family group settled in 1824. (Province of Quebec - part north of the St. Lawrence River.) I had seen the 2 paragraphs which mention my 2 ancestors before. But, this time I noticed something I hadn't remembered. It said, "William Henderson came from the Parish and County of Sligo, and settled here in 1824. .... He lived here until his death in 1870. He had 14 children ...." None of the researchers knew which town or parish the HENDERSON's were living in in County Sligo. I had guessed the Calry Parish in the northern part of the County. But this says he was in the Sligo Parish. I'm assuming that it means Sligo Town. However, some other researchers and I paid a fee to the "Sligo Research Centre" a couple of years ago, and they could not find the names in the records they have. (I don't think they really tried.) My other ancestor in the group was Patrick KERR and his wife, Elizabeth (KERR?) KERR. Perhaps the KERR's were in the Calry Parish and the HENDERSON's were in the Sligo Parish. The 9 people in the group were born in the 1780 to 1805 timeframe in County Sligo. Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) My gr-gr-grandparents, Robert KERR and Elizabeth HENDERSON were born in Argenteuil County, P.Q., in 1827. Note: You might be surprised at how many books are now becoming available at www.google.com (click on Books) (and also at HeritageQuest / Books)

They were 4th cousins of each other when they got married as Zella Hughey Henderson was descended from Jane Henderson and her husband, William Gorman. Together, they had six children. Both the Hugheys and the Hendersons were originally from Kentucky, but the families moved to Michigan to get jobs. Unlike her husband, Alec, Zella was born in Mancelona Township, Antrim County, Michigan. I'm descended from Zella's uncle, Robert Franklin Hughey, and her aunt, Martha Frances Proffit. Zella's dad, William Edward Hughey, married Martha's sister. The auto accident took place in 1937 in Antrim County, Michigan, and both of them died as a result. They had been married nearly 15 years at the time of the accident. Alec was descended from James Alexander Henderson (1784-1866) and Zella, from James's sister, Jane (Henderson) Gorman (1776-1831). Hi Betty I have been researching in N Ireland or trying to...But I have been concentrating more on the Copeland and my Armstrong/ Montgomery lines. In my searching I came across a book..."A Methodist Pioneer, the life of John Smith", by Rev Charles Crookshank (1881). In this book it mentioned a Henderson family that lived in Drumbulcan. It says how their children had become involved in Methodism and the parents were mad and would punish and even beat them. It also mentioned a "Miss" Henderson, a daughter. As it turned out a footnote to this "Miss" Henderson at the bottom of the page......"Thus Miss Henderson became the wife of James Copeland, of Lisbellaw: the Rev Wm Copeland, who entered the ministry in 1806, was their son." was MY ggg grandparents. I have gen notes that say my Hendersons lived in/near Cash Hill (which is close to Drumbulcan). So I was very happy to say the least. The only info I have about my Anne Henderson is that she was b 1754 and her father was a Mr Henderson and her mother was the eldest daughter of a Thomas Mitchell (who at one time resided in Monaghan). I am trying to find more info in ref to this line. TY for the info....as I am looking I will keep the names you mentioned and area in mind. It was common for these families to cross into other counties. Many in my other lines did. And quite a few immigrated to US, Canada and Australia. I was hoping perhaps someone might have connected to the "Drumbulcan" area....wishful thinking I guess. (lol) There is a site that I have found so much info on, if you are interested. In fact I just went to it put in "Kerr Sligo" and then "Henderson Sligo" and came up with a number of books relating to both, which I plan on going back thru. One mentions a William Henderson born in Sligo immigrated to Canada. It is the "google book" site. If you are interested..email me off list and I will send it to you. It has books on it, some very old Irish books, and some you can read online. TY again Sue in NY In a message dated 7/5/2008 6:43:50 A.M. They settled in the Prov. of Quebec, and Argenteuil County, and they all had many children, and thus had many descendants. There are many people researching them, and none of us can find out who the parents were back in County Sligo. With no known parents and siblings, we don't know how these people directly connected. We also don't know which part of County Sligo they lived in, but I suspect they were in the northern part of the County, possibly in or near the Calry Parish. And, we don't know how long they were in County Sligo. They could have very easily moved down there from County Fermanagh in the mid-1700's. The people in the family-group were all born in the 1780 to 1805 timeframe in the northern part of County Sligo. Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) P.S. My gr-gr-grandparents, Robert KERR and Elizabeth HENDERSON were born in the Prov. of Quebec in 1827. They were assumedly cousins, and they married there and had their 5 children there. Around 1860 they moved down to Compton County, and then most of the members of the family moved down to Massachusetts. P.S.2 Elizabeth's sister also married and migrated to US, but she and her husband moved to the very northern part of VT. Later they also came down to MA and settled near the Worcester area. I can't think of their names at this second, but I can retrieve it from archives of Lists. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Soopy46@aol.com> To: <HENDERSON@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, July 04, 2008 11:52 AM Subject: [HENDERSON] Henderson in Ireland > Hi all > Is there anyone researching their "HENDERSON" name in N Ireland? > Specifically in or near the townland of Drumbulcan, in County Fermanagh. > The time > frame would be 1700's (mid). > > My HENDERSONs lived there and my Anne Henderson b 1754 married James > Copeland b 1750. I hope this helps. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
