Lora lee, Hello from Kelli Henderson. I am from West Lafayette, IN (Tippecanoe County) and my Henderson lineage is from Lafayette to Delphi, IN in Carroll County. I went to Harrison High School (1976) and my great, great, great grandfather, Joans Addison Henderson born October 1783 in Augusta County, VA, died March 18, 1855 and is buried in the Pierce Cemetery behind Harrison High school. That entire grave yard is FULL of my relatives! Joans had 7 sons, but I do not see a Nathaniel? Sons born from 1817 to 1841. My great, great grandfather was Joseph Wiley Henderson born 1824 near Mt. Sterling, Montgomery County Kentucky. The family made their way north to Lafayette between 1833- 1836. Joseph Wiley Henderson had 4 sons and 5 daughters. These kids were born 1855 to 1876 near Brookston, IN in White County. None were named Nathaniel Henderson. My great grandfather was an only child, but had 2 sons Joseph and Ivan. I have just gone through my entire Henderson Book (quite the organized group who keep the genealogy of the entire family and had books printed and handed out to all the families who came to the reunions. What information of date birth do you have for Nathaniel? Maybe he was born later than my books go? My grandfather, Lowell Devere Henderson and my grandmother Loe Giles Henderson would go to Old Settler's Day in Delphi every year....they loved connecting back with folk they had not seen for years! I am registered with the Carroll County Genealogy in Delphi, IN. My cousin Sharon Elizabeth Henderson King is too. A lot of our relatives are also buried in Pretty Prairie Cemetery outside Battleground/Delphi, IN. I have a Lucia Campbell of Hood River Oregon who m. my grandfather Edwin Andrew Henderson of Hood River Oregon as first wife, his second wife was my grandmother Laura Caroline Dwyer--they went to Olympia Washington and had a son Leland William Henderson who was my father--he married my mother, Mary Elinor Garrison--I was born in Olympia Washington.? One of the files contain some records of land grants issued from North Carolina for South Carolina, and a description of what this was about follows from the Introduction of the book, along with the HENDERSON grants: "North Carolina Land Grants in South Carolina", by Brent Holcomb, first published 1975. The border between North and South Carolina was a point of controversy for many years. Finally, in 1764, the border east of the Catawba River was surveyed. However, it was not until 1772 that it was surveyed west of that river. Before these surveys, over 1,000 land grants were issued by North Carolina in territory which is now South Carolina. These grants are in the present counties of Marlboro, Chesterfield, Lancaster, York, Chester, Union, Cherokee, Spartanburg, Greenville, Laurens and Newberry. As most researchers know, these counties did not come into existence ntil many years after the border was surveyed. In the period just after the survey, thes grants were considered Craven or Berkeley Counties, and St. Mark's or St. David's Parish, South Carolina. The North Carolina counties from which these land grants were issued were Bladen, Anson, Mecklenburg, and Tryon. Bladen County was formed in 1734; Anson was formed from Bladen in 1748 or 1749; Mecklenburg, from Anson in 1763; tryon, from Mecklenburg in 1769. Of course, if land could be granted, it could be sold or inherited. Therefore, the other records of these North Carolina counties should be consulted, especially deeds and probate records. Conveniently for the researcher, all of thes records are published in abstract form, and are easily accessible. His branch of Anglins migrated to Union County Arkansas around 1890-1900. From researching the Anglin's here in South Ark. I have traced them back to Scott and Leake County Missisippi 1859-1880 but running into alot of brick walls. I would really like to find an actual Anglin descendant in Mississippi, that maybe could help me with some questions I have. I know its a long shot but right now its all ive got to go on. One of the Anglins i am working on is Roy L. Anglin. He also have gone by Roy and LeRoy. Some census records also have transposed his name as Ray. He married Ora Lee Henderson, and their children are Ollie Dean Anglin Wilcher who died in 1953, and a Glen Anglin. Roy, Ora, and Ollie are buried in New Hope Cemetary in Leake county. Some of the towns they have lived in are Carthage, Standing Pine, and Walnut Grove. On Roy's WWI Draft Card it gives his occupation as farming for Mrs. Loma Ellis near Estes Mill. This ! is most of the information i have on Roy and Ora Lee Anglin. If you have any more info to add please reply or email me direct.
