I've "rescued" an old photograph of Blanche P. HENDERSON of Carthage, Missouri which was taken at the Costello Studio in Carthage, MO. The photograph is dated Aug 1887 and notes that Blanche is just 6 months old at the time. I am hoping to locate someone from Blanche's family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of her family. But the Okinawan UNTEN. The name originates from Unten-ko (Unten port). The Okinawan Unten name has the meaning of "un o ten ni makase yo", roughly translated, "Let the heavens rule your fate/luck". The Okinawan Unten's have two branches, the Ue-untens and the Kame-untens. My last name is UNTEN and I am very familiar with the Okinawan Unten origin. I would have a half-brother from that marriage. His name was Malvin Roe Anderson, born 1917. He was born in Mills River, NC. He went to college in Florida, and was married to and divorced from Louise (or maybe Mary Louise) twice in that state. Their son was born around 1945. After a bloody battle with rival clan Keith, the two oldest surviving Gunn brothers of the chief, William and Henry, decided to part ways with William assuming the chief station of Gunn and Henry forming his own group that would remove themselves from the constant war with the Gunns. The Sons of Henry, or Hendersons, became a staple throughout Caithness with several distinct bands. You will find little mention of the Caithness Hendersons in the Jacobite rolls, because they stayed out of the whole mess. For the most part (from my research) these Hendersons were too busy making money or running things to get very much involved with feuds and wars until WW1, when many Hendersons from Dunbeath served in the British Army and several died. We have reason to believe that these Hendersons at times served as Tacksmen to the Sinclairs and Sutherland lairds, and were largely spared from the clearances. Due to the records of Latheron Parish, we do not have reliable information on the line before the mid 1700s. Also of note is that this family intersects the Gunn line several times, and there is a direct relationship between these people and the Scottish author, Neil M. Gunn of "Highland River" and "Silver Darlings" fame. If you have questions or wish to discuss, please feel free to contact me or access my tree.
