Posted on: Henderson Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/FamilyAssoc/Henderson/11228 Surname: Hiram Henderson ------------------------- Oh, I hope I'm wrong. I have several Hiram's in my family. Are yours from Lawrence Co., Ind? If so, and if you are part of my family -- this is the rumor: My husband's grandfather, Thornton was married 3 times. The last wife died after him, but when he died she got rid of most of his stuff. When she died, her daughter took the rest. It is rumored that there was a Henderson family bible, although she is not a Henderson, and there is noone in the family that knows her name or where she lives. I hope this isn't the bible that you are looking for, but I'd like to see if we are connected. Heidi Henderson

Hi list: I am searching for descendants who are researching Thomas and Eliza(?) Henderson. They were from PA, lived in Jackson County, Ohio then in Pickaway County, Ohio. My great great grandmother, Matilda Henderson, was their daughter and was probably their oldest child. She was born in PA in 1826 and married Samuel Gunnett in Jackson County, Ohio in 1846. They moved soon afterward to Pickaway, County, Ohio where they lived for the rest of their lives. Thomas and Eliza Henderson also moved to Pickaway County and on the 1850 Census, they are with their children Mary 22, John, 17, Martha J., 15, Thomas, 12, Robert, 10, James, 6, and Lucinda, 3. Also living with them was daughter, Eliza A. 22, (possibly a twin to Mary) and her husband, John W. Flinn, 27. Lucinda married Jacob Bletcher September 27, 1870. Any information at all on this family will be much appreciated. Thanks! Karen Conley klconley@webtv.net

Hello Henderson cousins. I don't want to reinvent the wheel, so please advise me if this speculation has been investigated. Here goes. Nancy Osborne married Joseph Henderson as listed in DAR, with various and incomplete dates. We do know they had a son named Joseph Henderson who married Lucy Collier. Nancy Osborne has eluded all of us. There is a Nancy Osborne b. about 1756 who married a George Levisay. Nancy Osborne here is listed as the daughter of Ephriam Osborne and Elizabeth Howard. George Levisay is listed by one researcher as born in Rowan County North Carolina 1763 and died in Tennessee 1837. George Levisay is also listed with same birth dates 1763, however in Pa, and death in 1837 in Tennessee, married to a Nancy Millie Anderson, daughter of Peter Anderson. We do know the name Levisay and Osborne are familiar to the Henderson line here as they were accordingly named children of Joseph Henderson and Lucy Collier, one and same grandchildren to Nancy Osborne and Joseph Henderson Sr. Please advise on this issue, Mac? Glenda? as I have not worked on this Henderson line for over a years. Cheers to all, Annabelle Henderson Rupert great granddaughter of Osborne Henderson

Henderson comes from the Gaelic MacEanruig, closest English pronunciation would be MacKendrick, and means "Son of Henry," as you've already heard. According to research I've done, the name can be traced to eleventh century Scotland. The Henderson clan was a sept of the MacIan clan who were themselves a sept of Clan MacDonald. There are three distinct Scot lines of Hendersons, the largest of which was from the Glencoe region in the highlands. The Swedish variation is still Scot in origin, these are migrants whose names were modified to fit their new home and culture. Hendersons were present at the battle of Stirling, the Battle of Falkirk and of course the Jacobite rebellions. Hendersons were pipers for Clan MacIan and clan MacDonald. (The names MacHenry, Henrison, Henryson, Harryson, Mackendrick, among others, are closely related.) ----- Original Message ----- From: "John Wyatt Henderson" <john.henderson@ps.net> To: <HENDERSON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, May 17, 2001 11:49 AM Subject: [HENDERSON] Henderson Origins > Posted on: Henderson Queries > Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/Henderson/11219 > > Surname: Henderson > ------------------------- > > The best short explanation of where Henderson comes from is on the web > page http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/Heritage/FSCNS/Scots_NS/Clans/Henderson/Origin_Hen derson/Henderson_Name.html > > There are also Hendersens (with an "e") from the Scandinavian countries, > but I come from the Scots so I do not know anything of the Scandinavian > Hendersens. > > john.henderson@ps.net > > > ==== HENDERSON Mailing List ==== > > > > ============================== > Join the RootsWeb WorldConnect Project: > Linking the world, one GEDCOM at a time. > http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com >
From: "Chris Hutchcraft" <chutchcraft@earthlink.com> > please help me find origin of the name Henderson > The name Henderson is derived from Henry, or Henry's son, which in time became Henrison, Hendrickson, and Henderson and others. The name appears in Scotland since at least the fifteenth century, the chief seat being at Fordell, County Fife With the European migration, the name Henderson has gradually spread from Scotland across the world and is now strongly represented in countries such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United States as well as Great Britain.
