I am looking for my grandmother, Ruby Louise Henderson. She was born in Knoxville, TN around 1930. She lived in Wyandotte, MI when she was 16. She had my Daddy April 29,1947 at Wayne Co Hospital in Wyandotte. She gave him to George & Ora Brewer when he was 3 years old. She also had two daughters, Linda Louise & Patricia Lenert or Lenart. If anyone has any information about her, please e-mail me. Thank You, Lisa
Do you mean John Henderson who married Orpha Hall, 1850?
This letter is for Billie Jones, but for the list, too, as something herein may be helpful in someone's search. Thank you for your kind words about my books. I have found them useful also; abstracting those deeds answered several problems. Trouble is, you solve one problem and the way opens up to other problems. Sorry, I cannot solve your Limestone County, Alabama, problem. Best I can do is send the information that I have which seems to show several men named James Henderson. 1. James A. Henderson, Limestone County, AL. from Gandrud: ALABAMA RECORDSA, Vol 187 p.36. 1842 December 29 marriage of James S Henderson (must mean A) to Amelia Holloway solemnized 12 January 1843. 1850 census Limestone, AL. Henderson, James A. 29 AL " Amelia H 26 AL " Virginia 7 AL " Harriett 5 AL " Mary 3 AL Walker, Malinda 58 SC from same book, p.11 1840 marriage records James Henderson to Elizabeth Roberts. No return. 1850 census #174. Henderson, Elizabeth 51 SC Roberts, Margaret E 8 AL Roberts, Amanda J 6 AL 1840 census #156 Richard son of Richard 1765-1833 #163 James son of Richard #172 Sam " #174 Isaac @ #174 Mary widow of Richard 1765-1833 1833 Will of Richard Henderson his sons Preston, Isaac, and James Preston Henderson was born about 1795 in SC, son of Richard 1765-1833 son of Samuel and Mary Ann (Waldrup) Henderson. Preston Henderson married Dorothy (unknown surname) and lived in 1830 in Wilson County, Tennessee. He had chikldren John, Jeremiah, Robert, and Sarah In Wilson County, TN, grantor index: Preston Henderson sold to John S Vaughan, Deed Book H 1819-1821. [Since this is not my line, I have never looked for this deed] Wilson County, TN, 1819 August Court. Deed Richard Henderson to Preston Henderson 72 acres Deed Preston Henderson to Jno Haight, 123 acres 1821 August 22 Joseph Cole to Preston Henderson, both of Wilson County, Negro man and woman Since that James seems to be identified, the other James Henderson May be connected to Thomas Henderson (1780-1858). Thomas died in Limestone. He married Margaret Grigsby in Abbeville, SC, in 1816. I am somwhat mixed up about their children. The children seem to be James, Eliza, Ema, Lemuel, Sarah, Benjamin, Gabriel, but I am not at all sure about the children's names. Thomas who married Margaret Grigsby was a son of Nathaniel Henderson, the Quaker who died in Edgefield in 1803 and his wife Rebecca Thornton. Most of Nathaniel's family went North with the Quakers in the years following 1800. Thomas did not. You will find a couple of Thomas Hendersons who did go, but they were Nathaniel's brother and son, not Nathaniel's son. Margaret was born 1786 and her father was John Grigsby. 2. You mention Calvin Henderson who married Eglentine Garrett. His father was Obediah Henderson Junior, son of Obediah Henderson Senior. The family came to Edgefield from Amherst County, Virginia. Please do not believe the entire bible record of this family. The early generations are wrong. There was no young man named Hillsborough who changed his name because of a argument about money with his older brothers. This is not true, and is one of those made-up stories that people invent when they hit the old brick wall and have to invent a way to get over it! If there is any connection of Obediah Henderson senior with the Quaker family, it goes back to Hanover County, VA. Obediah Henderson married Judah [unknown] Cook the widow Cook in Hanover (not documented; could have married in Amherst). Here is Obediah Henderson Senior. He must have been born about 1730. I don't know his father; can make a guess but won't. His wife was Judah widow of Jeremiah Cook. Her Cook children were George who married #1 Elizabeth Thomas and had a son William born 1784 March 6. He married again in Tennessee while the first wife was still living in South Carolina. George died before 1799 in Davidson County, TN. Judah was also mother of William Cook born 1752 died in Edgefield, married 1781 Liddey Bailey dau of John Bailey in Amherst and had sons Jeremiah (b. 1785) and William. Joseph Cook may have been a third son of Judah; his family is uncertain. Judah and Obediah Hederson had: Bennett born between 1755 and 1765, married Rebecca OBediah born 1784 more or less. He appears in three Edgefield censuses and the year 1784 seems to satisfy census figures Abraham born about 1780, wife Margaret Nancy married James Martin who died 1823 in Amherst and had chldren Obediah and Judah Martin. Another daughter is shown in the census, she may have been Elizabeth the forsaken daughter in law wife of George Cook. Obediah Henderson Junior married #1 Sally Lewis who died about 1820 or 1822. chldren: Lewis m --- Holloway (Hellenor Holloway?) Sally 1805-1829 Lucy 1807-1829 Calvin 1809-1877 Elizabeth 1812 m James Holloway Judy 1814-1823 Bennett 1817-1885 Thomas Stanton 1819 m Lurania children of wife #2 Mary Price daughter of Thomas Price Martha b 1823 Mary Ann b 1825 Francis Meriwether 1826-1859 m Cassandra Beattie Eliza b 1829 Obediah Fletcher b 1831 Ordann Hulda Lewis "Levi" b 1832 (posthumous. Guardian her mother and J P Self. Billie, anything you can add or subtract in the above material I shall welcome. I'll write separately about the other families you mentioned. Thought all this Henderson stuff might be of general interest. Carol
