of 9793 Hello, I just checked the archives of the HENDERSON Message Board at www.genforum.com, and found this information on HENDERSON's from Ireland who migrated to New Brunswick. This was posted in August 2003: During the Irish famine, a number of Henderson's arrived on the ship, 'Marchioness of Clydesdale', sailing from Derry, Ireland to Saint John, NB in 1847. These were: Joseph Henderson of Drung, Donegal Mary Henderson of Drung, Donegal Roseanna Henderson of Drung, Donegal Catherine Henderson of Drung, Donegal William Henderson b. ca. 1837 of Drung, Donegal Charles James Henderson b. ca. 1840 of Drung, Donegal Agnes Henderson b. ca. 1841 of Drung, Donegal It appears that this might have been the family of Joseph and Mary HENDERSON with their children born in the 1830's and 1840's. I was wondering if anyone knows anything else about them. What I am looking for is the parents of an Eliza(beth) HENDERSON who was born in New Brunswick approx. 1855. And, I am wondering if she was part of the above family. ... I have some newly found step-cousins, and their grandmother was born Hazel SHAW in 1895 in Saint John, NB. And, her parents were Edward SHAW, b~1855, and Elizabeth HENDERSON, b~1855. I am trying to create a family-tree for my step-cousins, and I would like to know more information about Edward and Eliza SHAW. This couple is in the 1881 Census for Saint John, NB, and they are listed with their 7-month-old daughter, and they have a Jessie HENDERSON, Age 10, living with them. (When she married, Jessie used the name, Jessie SHAW, and was known as "the big sister" of the SHAW's ten children !) In the 1881 Census, Eliza said she was born in N.B., but she was "Irish." If she was not a child of Joseph and Mary HENDERSON, does anyone know if other HENDERSON couples arrived in New Brunswick in the 1840's? Thank you for your time. Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) FYI: This research is for the descendants of my paternal grandfather's "second" wife. My maternal grandfather's grandmother was born Elizabeth HENDERSON in 1827 in Argenteuil County, Quebec Province, Canada. Her parents were William and Mary (KERR) HENDERSON, and they arrived in Quebec in 1823. In 1851, Elizabeth married her cousin, Robert KERR, whose parents were Patrick and Elizabeth (KERR??) KERR, who had also arrived in Quebec in 1823.

I would like to find out who Elizabeth HENDERSON's parents were. The 1881 Census has her born in NB, but listing herself as "Irish" - so I am guessing she was born to a family who migrated from Ireland to Canada in the 1840's.

I am trying to create a family-tree for my newly found step-cousins, and I need to know more about this couple. They are found in the 1881 Census for New Brunswick, living in Saint John, NB. Edward SHAW was born ~1855 and was Age 26, and was born in ENGLAND. Elizabeth SHAW was born ~1855 and was Age 26, and was born in New Brunswick, but she stated she was "Irish." They had a baby daughter, Maggie, b1880, and a Jessie HENDERSON, Age 10, living with them. I suspect that Eliza(beth) HENDERSON might have been born to a HENDERSON couple who migrated from Ireland to New Brunswick in the 1840's. Edward and Eliza SHAW had about 10 children, and I am attempting to create a family tree for one of their younger daughters, Hazel SHAW, b1895 in NB. At her death in MA/USA in 1948, her full name was: Mrs. Hazel (SHAW) (McCAVOUR) (BEDELL) LEWIS, and she was the second wife of my grandfather. With Allan McCAVOUR of New Brunswick, she had a son, Ronald McCAVOUR, born ~1913. With Charles BEDELL of MA/USA, she had four children, Dorothy, Albert, Evelyn, and Shirley BEDELL. (There is a mystery surrounding the birth of Ronald McCAVOUR in Saint John, NB, as both of his parents seem to have abandoned him as an infant, when they "separated." There is a "hint" that he was born with "health problems" and might have been raised by a family member.)

My Carlton line came from the Londonderry area of Ireland. It was in the 1830's that my line came to the US and settled in Indiana (Fayette County) Then in the late 1840's some of them moved further West to Iowa. It is in Iowa (Taylor & Decatur Counties) that my grandmother, Nellie Carlton Canaday, was born in 1876. If you find a connection, I would be curious to know about it. Take care, Carlton Canaday

The photo I have of Oren Henderson is in an old Carlton family album from the 1890's. I have been wondering why his photo is there. I figure he either is a good friend of the family or related in some way. My Carlton line came from Ireland to Indiana and then in the 1830's moved to Iowa. My grandmother's mother was a Tillotson whose line also came from Ireland and settled in Indiana but generally in the Terre Haute area. I'm offering to email a copy of the photo I have to anyone who may be interested in the hopes I can find out more about him. He appears to be in his twenties and is very well dressed. I think I already mentioned in my posting that the photo was taken in Valparaiso, Indiana. Let me know if you would like a copy of the photo. Carlton Canaday
