    1. Veterans Burial Info
    2. Debbi Geer
    3. As most of you probably already know, the Dept of Veterans Affairs has a website (National Cemetery Administration) for obtaining information on military gravestones, veterans benefits, etc and including a database of burials in the national cemeteries (http://www.cem.va.gov/). Recently while trying to locate some burials in the database, I used my maiden name to see if the any were buried in a national cemetery. To my surprise I found my father listed although he is in a private church cemetery. His burial location is listed incorrectly and I then proceeded to write them to give the correct info so that his entry could be corrected. I received a reply within a few days indicating that they were in the process of adding the burials of those veterans for which the grave has a military gravestone/marker. They are aware that there will be some errors but will probably not correct the data until all the burials are in the database which could be several months. It was my impression that they are starting with the requests currently being received and then going back in time starting with 2005 until the project is complete. I know there are numerous other military burials in the cemetery where my father is buried which are not yet in the database. Several of these burials occurred from the early 1990's to 2004. If you happen to find the burial of a family member and the info has some incorrect data, please be sure to use the contact form at the website. You may also want to wait a bit to give them time to get the remaining burials listed. It was also indicated that they may not have some burials with a military gravestone/marker in their files. I don't know what their procedure will be for accepting info on these burials, but it will probably be better if you can send them a photo of the actual military gravestone/marker to show that the person is indeed a veteran as well as having the grave marked as such so that they can add the info to their records. For some of the older burials for which the records were destroy in the mid-1960's fire at the reccords center in Overland MO, this may be one way to get a file for the veteran for future purposes. So check the database periodically and give the NCA time to get the database updated as they prefer. This is one service which all of us appreciate and words can never tell any veteran how much they are appreciated when it comes to defending their country and its citizens. My great-great-grandmother was born an Elizabeth HENDERSON in Canada in 1827. In 1851 she married her cousin, Robert KERR; their parents (and others) came to Canada in 1823 from Sligo, Ireland. Two of Robert and Elizabeth's children came down to Boston in the early 1870's, and then they and two more children came down around 1885. The family was centered around Everett, MA. A couple years ago I heard from a woman who said that one of Elizabeth's sisters had married in Canada, and initially moved to northern VT, but came down and settled near Worcester, MA. I don't know the information off the top of my head, but I might have mentioned it on the Boards and Lists at the time. Betty (near Lowell, MA)

He was born in England, approximately 1819, and later immigrated to America (dates unknown). He fought in the Civil War, probably for the confederacy as he lived in or around Virgina at the time. This also means he was in America before 1861. James lived to be about 90 years old and had five children, one of which is my grandfather Jerry Henderson b. 1894. (Yes! James was in his 70s when Jerry was born!) The other children's names were Jake (Jacob?) David (possibly John David), Stella and Betty. I have scraped these bits together from my famliy but its still very sketchy. I'm interested in learning more about his Civil War service and family connections in England. Thanks in advance for any information provided.

My grandma was Marjorie Amy Anstead (born 1922), and married Aubrey James Ferris (born 1919) and moved to Canada in 1945. My dad was born in England in 1944. Marjorie did have a sister Molly Grace (born 1920, Hampshire England) and in grandma;s phone/address book is a listing for Molly Henderson of Gatehouse-of-Fleet, Scotland. Hoping and crossing my fingers this is her sister Molly, but having no luck on the UK phone book directory searches. I know she may be listed under her husband's name, and I don't know what that is at the moment. If Molly is still alive today, she would be 86 this year (2006) Does anyone know this family? Can anyone look for her in the directory at home? or did she pass away? (woudl there be an obit for her?) I know I don't have much to go on, but hey, it's worth a try...it's always worth a try.... After that, I lose track of Hattie and the children. I do know that Troy was living in the late 1930's but have hit a brick wall with Hattie's family. The census indicates that she was born in TX but her parents were born in MS.
