Author: debijon1 Surnames: Henderson, Atkins, Nathan Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.henderson/5692.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello Wanda. Thanks for inquiring about my parents Ted And Wanda Henderson. I must say it was quite a surprise when my wife came upon your message and told me about it. After all these years, it's quite rare to find someone who remembers them, especially their brief time at WNOX's Midday Merry Go Round. As you know, the bulk of their career was spent at Nashville's WLAC. When I was a kid, my parents would occasionally reminisce about their time in the music business and when Knoxville and WNOX came up, the thing they talked about most was the shy kid who was always back in the corner somewhere practicing on his guitar. Of course, that kid turned out to be Chet Atkins. I tend to think they might have read or heard about that legendary story and it may have jarred their memory a bit. Just a hunch. Anyway, I'm told my parents recorded 4 sides for Sid Nathan's "King Record Company" in Cincinnati in the late 40s, but none were commercially released. When I worked as a deejay at N! ashville's WKDA and WENO radio stations back in the 70s, I contacted the Country Music Foundation regarding any archived material on my parents. All that was found were a few of their mail-order songbooks, but unfortunately no recordings. I'll bet those King discs still exist in a vault somewhere in Cincinnati, but there's probably no chance of ever locating them. One more thing: my parents told me about a young couple who wrote to them saying that they had named their daughter after my mother. Are you that daughter? Again, thanks very much for writing and I hope my information helped. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. We are part of the family which consisted of seven children, Henry (1803), Robert (1804), Samuel (1806), William (1809), Thomas (1812), James (1822), and Mary Ann (1823), their father, William (1776), and mother, Mary (1875) and one who may have been the grandfather, John (1731). We have a file of about 250 Hendersons all descendents of that tree. We'd be very happy to receive anything at all that you may have on this family, like the ship that they sailed on and the earlier history in Ireland. Anything at all, please. We have the arrival date to the Gore in SW Lower Canada, (now Quebec) as 1829, not 1823. Same people? Shirley Henderson. For I know that my ancestors would be so proud of me to know I was "sharing" and "helping" others! And what goes around comes around! Isn't that what it is ALL about? Happy New Year! 2. Claiborne Co Tn in 1830.,dau Emily Henderson (1814-1844) md Asa Simpson no doubt in Claiborne Co Tn. (don't have record) but age must have been about 16 yrs old with ages of the children. Emily died 1844, age of about 30 yrs., 5 children, in 1850 ,Asa Simpson is married the young males are missing so no names for help in solving . I believe Asa Simpson is son of a James Simpson as only Simpson family in Claiborne Co Tn., in 1830. It was routine to marry in Bride's home area. Asa Simpson is in 1840 Barry Co Missouri, 1850 in Polk Co Mo., last record Asa is in home of daughter in 1870 Polk Co Mo Census. 3. Karen, where were these Stones? In which state? Carole -----Original Message----- From: henderson-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:henderson-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Karen Pritchett Sent: Friday, December 14, 2007 11:06 AM To: henderson@rootsweb.com Subject: [HENDERSON] Susannah Henderson and John Thomas Stone I am very confused and hope there is some new information out there about this couple. My husband is descended from John Thomas Stone and Susannah Henderson, through their son Reuben Floyd Stone and Fetney Hurst. In several places I have seen "trees" that say Susannah was born about 1793, the daughter of Thomas Henderson and Elizabeth McGhee. A few of these trees give Susannah's birth as about 1780, but still list her as the daughter of Thomas Henderson and Elizabeth McGee. This is not possible. If Susannah were born in 1793, that would make her only 9 years old at the birth of her first child. In her application for John Stone's military pension, she states that her first child, Thomas Henderson Stone, was born in 1802. In addition, she places herself as age 40-50 in the 1830 census, which would place her birth between 1780 and 1790, a much more likely scenario. If Susannah were born 1780, then she is not likely to be the daughter of Thomas Henderson and Elizabeth McGhee, as they were both born about 1770, and would have been only 10 years old at her birth. There are also some trees which list Susannah as the daughter of Thomas Henderson and Elizabeth Riggs (also unlikely), and there seems to be some confusion as to whether the Thomas Henderson who married Elizabeth McGhee/McGee and Elizabeth Riggs is the son of Thomas Henderson and Elizabeth Morrison or the son of John Andrew Henderson and Mary Russell. Does anyone have any input on this? (I won't get into the confusion over who John Thomas belongs to yet...)
