    1. Re: [HENDERSHOT-L] Mary Hendershot
    2. Dear Barbara, I don't know what to tell you. The Hendershot Genealogy by William E. Hendershott only has one Mary Hendershot who married a Minegar. And he only followed the Hendershot men. John who is the father of Mary was born on the Millstone River, Franklin Twp Somerset Co NJ. They were members of St. James Lutheran church on the taxables Greenwich Twp. 1774. Have you checked any of the Lutheran Church records for the area around western NJ PA and Virginia? We have a Hendershot organization with over 100 people and we did not have this information except what is in the Fortney book. Have you written to Loren Varga his address is loren_varga@merck.com ? Maybe he can help. The Hendershots are having a reunion next September in NJ are you interested in attending? Barbara Rudy

It is a part of our family that little has been researched. To my knowledge the two sons; Michael & Christopher married the two daughters of Michael Hendershot. If there were other children, I have never seen them. In essence, any Roof from this line is as much a HENDERSHOT as we are. Sherman Clark Hendershot married Margaret Celeste Roof. May 14, 1949 at the Presb Church Newton. Clark did own ROOF CHEVROLET, AND A THREE HUNDRED ACRE TRACT ON SWARTZWOOD LAKE, called "The Rabbit Patch". She was the daughter of James Russell Roof and Margaret Decker. Clark was the son of Clarence Hendershot & Beulah A. Westbrook; and descends from Peter Hendershot & Anibel South.(Married Feb 9 1795 Sussex County) I have no positive proof but I believe Peter was the son of Casper Hendershot & Elizabeth Pegg. Casper also had a daughter Hannah (Sarah) who married John Blackford May 9 1795 Sussex County, & Michael who married (1) Lydia Bell Nov 14 1793 (2) Mary Space Aug 25 1804 & removed to Cqpitina Creek Belmont Ohio, probably with some of his children (Danial for one) and left many descendants. Casper probably also had a daughter Elizabeth who died Jun or Jul 1865 Age 86 A WIDOW, and DC gives her parents as dau of CASPER & ELIZABETH HENDERSHOT, She may have been married to William Hendershot, but her parents were listed as Casper & Elizabeth Hendershot. Also Died Jan 25 1855 Hardwick Sussex County NJ; Hester age 74 yrs 10 months SINGLE & names Mary Smith??. I believe she may have been the daughter off Casper & Elizabeth Also. This Mary is probably the daughter of Jacob & Effy Paugh Hendershot who married Cadwallender Smith May 2 1804 in Newton; & who would have been her first cousin. WEH also has Peter B-Nov 7 1770 as being married to "Anibel" Ann Melick. This is wrong. Ann Melick Died in Oldwick Ca 1778 (Listed in the Zion Lutheran Church records as wife of Peter. Peter son of Jacob B-1747 who died before April 27 1837 & NAMES NO CHILDREN OF HIS OWN. His will was very detailed & named each of his brother's sons named Peter, including Peter Dennis (probable son of his Aunt Catherine married to John Nicholas Dennis) Who he left the farm too. He also left a sum to his brother John & wf Phoebe Truesdale to build a Comfortable Home. His brother may have been an epileptic or some such as he was in the Poor House. Phoebe built the home & it was still standing as recently as 1980's though I believe it's gone now.. I wish to thank you for the ROOF FILES. They are an important part of our family history. I also find the GED.COM files very helpful, they save a great deal of time & trouble. I have been following your Email very carefully. Again I thank you. Visited John's B-1720 Milstone first home in Middle Valley Morris County. The house has been restored to Museum Level, which includes an old Milk House; and the probable "John Hendershot's" Barn which Muhlenberg refers to in his Journals. We are in the process of arranging another in Buck Valley possibly in August. BETTY & FRANK --part1_24a6bbb2.249fb82b_boundary--

Later going through the Northumberland County records we found the sale of the same patent to DAVID IRELAND. Michael & Naomi acquired the property in 1774 & in 1775 sold a piece of it to David Ireland "adjoining other property of said Michael & Naomi Hendershot." It is possible he was speculating & I immediately began searching, thinking, he probably bought near the Wyoming Massacre. I searched Northumberland, Montour, Columbia and Luzerne Counties. No Luck. It is possible however there might be something in Union or Snyder County. The County lines were not clear to me & the records may be some place else. I have copied the Militia Files of Sussex & Roxbury. There are also a few maps. 1775, which show Hardyston and it's proximity to the Drowned Lands & Orange County. Roxbury is also adjoining Hardyston. I also found Jacob in Roxbury. He is most likely Jacob, son of Jerimiah, probably brother of Michael (& Phoebe) & most likely father of Jerimiah who married Angeline Milham. Casper, whose "third?" wife was Margaret Drake Bond; daughter of Charles Drake, is also a likely son of Jerimiah of the 1773 Roxbury Revolutionary Census. The above named Casper makes a weak case for Jerimiah being son of Casper B-1699. Christopher who married Christine Smith (# 3 ) is a likely brother of Jerimiah. He also lived in Morris County. I will send copies of the census on in a day or so. BETTY & FRANK --part1_3d07552d.249fb416_boundary--
