Begins at Noon - Coach pickup at hotels about 11:45 am Followed by: Multimedia Presentations of "The Secrets of Hylton Castle", "A Tale of Two Washingtons" and a rendition of "The Lambton Worm". at Sunderland University A visit to St Peter's Church, built in 674 A.D. which contains a monument and effigy of Baron Hylton who built Hylton Castle. Elizabethan Banquet in the evening at nearby Lumley Castle. Sunday 4th July "A DAY TO REMEMBER" - Washington Old Hall, 4th July Independence Day Celebrations, Lunch with the Friends of Hylton Dene, Raising of the Hylton Flag at Hylton Castle Tour of Hylton Castle, St Katherine's Chapel and Hylton Dene River Cruise to "Meet the Locals" dinner at the Golden Lion Pub at Hylton Ferry overlooking the River Wear where William Hilton of "The Fortune" fame is believed to have operated the ferry in the early 17th Century. Monday 5th July "RIVER OF DESTINY" - Following the path of the River Wear, Well visit the village of Philadelphia, Penshaw Monument, built to commemorate the life of first Governor General of Canada, St Cuthbert's church at Chester-le-Street, and Finchale Abbey, home of "Good Eric". De Luxe Buffet Lunch at Horsley Hall, a home of the descendents of the Hyltons of Hylton Castle. A visit to Auckland Castle, home of the Prince Bishops and the magnificent Durham Cathedral, now a World Heritage Site. Dinner at a venue to be advised Tuesday 6th July "JOURNEY OF DISCOVERY" - Coach to Tynemouth Castle where Sir Thomas Hylton was Governor and where the "Wizard Earl" was born. His brother George Percy was on the Discovery to Jamestown in 1607. Stop off on the Roman Wall, Visit to Cockermouth, Aspatria, and Whitehaven to see where George Washington's grandmother was buried. On to Muncaster Castle, home of the Penningtons, John Pennington was also also on the Discovery to Jamestown in 1607, for one of the best views in England, and returning via Sizergh Castle near Kendal. Lunch and Dinner en route. Wednesday 7th July "TIL WE MEET AGAIN" - Coach to Beamish Museum followed a farewell lunch Lumley Castle. Lunch will end approximately 2:30 pm.
