I will include census records for Elisha Helton & Louisa in case you don't have them. 1850 Harlan census has Elisha as 21 yrs. old and living in the household of his widowed mother. This census is from the Harlan Connections by Frances Y. Dunham. It shows that this Elisha was killed in the Civil War & that he did marry Hetty Osborn in Harlan County 1854. 1860 Harlan census has Elisha as 31 yrs. old & Hetty as 21 yrs. old. They also have a son CARTER HELTON listed as 4 yrs. old. 1870 Harlan census does not have Elisha because he died in the Civil War. It does however list Hetty Osborn, age 31, as Easther Osborne the widow of Elisha Helton who was a son of John & Barbara Helton and that Elisha & Easther were married in Harlan County in 1854. Listed as her children in this household are: Carter Helton 13 yrs. old. Elijah Helton 9 yrs. old. Mahala Helton 7 yrs. old. In the notes for Elijah Helton in the 1870 annonated census by Gertrude & Janette Nolan it shows that Elijah married Louisa Vaughn-Simpson 1881, dau of James/Phoebe Helton Vaughn. 1880 census has for Louisa Vaughn-Simpson the following. Louisa Simpson age 30, d/o James/Phoebe Helton Vaughn who married 1st. in Harlan Co. in 1866 to Milton Simpson which ended in divorce. Louisa Simpson them married 2nd. in Harlan Co. in 1881 to Elijah Helton b. 1869 s/o Elisha/Easter Osborn Helton. Living in the household with Louisa Simpson in the 1880 census are the following children, all listed as Simpson's: John R. 12 Jane 10 Sabra 6 Milton 4 Jessie 1 Hopefully something here will assist you in your research as this is confirmed information. If you have anything that refutes any of the above information? I would greatly appreciate getting it because I would like the info for my Helton family tree. Randy Oplinger
