Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ernie McGaughey, former pastor from Tulia, and the Rev. Ricky Carstensen officiating. Burial will be in Gageby Cemetery by Wright Funeral Home. Mrs. Helton was born Aug. 1, 1912, in Hemphill County to Joseph Polk and Fannie Caroline King. She married Thomas R. Helton on Dec. 17, 1931, in Cheyenne, Okla. They were married 73 years. She and her husband lived on the farm at Gageby from 1943 to 1985. They then moved to Wheeler to live until August 2001, when they moved to the Craig Methodist Retirement Community in Amarillo. Mrs. Helton was a member of First United Methodist Church of Wheeler and Home Demonstration Club in Briscoe. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; a brother; a grandson; and a great-grandson. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Joyce Smith and husband, Joe Paul, of Sayre, Okla.; four sons, Thomas R. Helton Jr. and wife, Martha, and Jack Helton and wife, Sharon, all of Wheeler, Bob Helton and wife, Lavada, of Marble Falls and Bill Helton and wife, Phyllis, of Amarillo; 19 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
