TN. My gr grandfather was John L. "Cane" Helton married Laura E. Coley Helton in Dec. 1893. I believe Cane's mother would of been Nancy. I found him listed in with her family in a 1870 Census record. I am told he was part Cherokee and may be decended from Chief Daniel Smith Helton. I am not sure of this though. I would appreciate any information you may have on them. THANKS
