Helton/Hilton, who both lived in Bibb County, AL, at one time. What I know about Elizabeth (most of it proved, some not): born June 5, 1826 in GA. Died July 14, 1896 in AL. Married Feb. 7, 1847, in Tallapoosa County, AL, to Blakeley Edins/Eddins' second wife. Can't find them in the 1850 Census. 1860: Cahaba River, Bibb County. 1870: Shelby Springs, Shelby County, AL. 1880: Randolph, Bibb County, AL. Children: Simmon Aaron, Nancy Jane, Sarah L., James Blakeley, Eliza E., Rebecca, John H., Mary Alice, Lourena. What I know about Mattie from the 1880 Census: born about 1788 in GA, died after 1880. Living with daughter Elizabeth and son-in-law Blakeley Edins/Eddins in Randolph, Bibb County, AL. Aged 92. What I am guessing about Mattie: her real name was Martha, There is a Martha Helton, 70, in the 1860 Bibb County, Cahaba River area household of Clinton Corley. Other Heltons in the household include Allan, 36, Martha, 33, Jack, 17, Martha, 10, John Helton, 27, Emily Helton, 31, Ann, 3. I would appreicate any leads, hunches, or info!!!!!!!! Thanks.

Hello I am looking for info on the Helton side of my family. My grandmothers name was Mary Sue Helton b. June 22,1915. She married Jesse Leo Davis b.June 17, 1910; Her parents were Jim Helton b. abt 1880; and Mattie Sue Lanford b.1890. I am trying to find out the parents of these people . Thank you very much for the Helton Link and for Dottie's email address, John. The only clue I have is that my Great Grandmother, Mary Burton b. abt 1879 in Rogersville, TN, stated on her ssi application that her mother was Elizabeth Lype. I found Mary in the home of her parent's John and Elizabeth Burton and the mother in law, Mary C. Helton was living with them in 1880, she was 45 years of age. I don't know why Elizabeth is a Lype and her mother a Helton. I have never found a marriage record for John Burton and Elizabeth Lype, but I have found one for John Burton and Sarah Helton, right date. So the only thing I can think of is that Elizabeth had taken on the Lype name or else the Helton name when her mother married the Helton..I just don't know. My grandfather said that Mary Burton's grandmother was a Cupp/Cope and I've looked for a Mary Cupp/cope who married a Lype or a Helton..I've yet to find a marriage between the two or three. Here is the Census Record exerpts of the Burton's and the Helton's and Lype's that lived near each other..Most of these people stayed right in this area thru 1900. I have those Census Records as well, if you would like to see them, let me know. Let me know if you know of these Helton's listed here..I know some were said to have served in the Union army with the wild Wm. Sizemore in the 13th Calvary.
