    2. Elizabeth Duke
    3. To other list members: I am Elizabeth Duke, and my HEDGES connection is in Eynsham. My greatgrandmother was Emma HEDGES, who married Joseph William ANDERSON at Eynsham on 14 September 1874. Her father was John HEDGES, who is described as a widower when he married Mary WIGGINS in Eynsham on 10 October 1836. >From the 1841 census he was born around 1808 in Oxfordshire. There are plenty of HEDGES in Eynsham, and I have notes from the parish records. But I can't find either the birth or the first marriage of John. (He was buried in Eynsham on 25 August 1850.) Has anyone found a possible identity for him? Sue HEDGES has sent me a copy of his Marriage Allegation and Bond for his marriage with Mary, but hasn't turned up anything more about him. Unfortunately they timed their wedding just too early for the registration process. If anyone is looking for HEDGES in Eynsham around the time of this wedding or earlier, I am happy to check my notes, though Sue has done much more systematic work on the name. Out of curiosity I am looking for any information about Mary and Margery HEDGES, who signed a Quaker petition against tithes in 1659, and are listed as living in Oxfordshire. There is no reference to them in the most obvious Quaker sources. Is anyone interested in this period? Elizabeth Elizabeth Duke London elizabeth.duke@clara.co.uk
