Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/BNi.2ACIB/102.121.134.1 Message Board Post: Nancy, Arch Heck's research of Daniel David Heck was copyrighted in 1970. In his introduction he states that he had spent most of his time after his 1958 retirement form Ohio State University on this project. He came to our little Southern Illinois town to talk to our family when I was a child, probably in the early 60s. Also in this introduction he states that he could discover no documentary evidence showing the father of Daniel David but his assumption was that Daniel David was the son of Daniel Heck who migrated to Pennsylvania at the Port of Philadelphia in 1753. If you have any additional information regarding this, I would appreciate knowing it.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Heck Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/BNi.2ACIB/275.286.1 Message Board Post: I am not a descendant of "Daniel David" Heck and do not have the set of volumes by Arch. My sister, who met Arch, does have the books. I will send you a direct e-mail with what she found. The Mormons do have Arch's book on microfim. I suggest you order it into the nearest Family History Center. According to Arch your line from "Daniel David"is as follows; Jacob Heck b. 1790, Jesse James Heck b. 1819, Silas White Heck b. 1851. The children of Silas are listed and fit what you know. He does show your ancestor as Thomas Mitchell rather than Thomas Mathew. My reason for showing quotation marks around Daniel David is explained on a posting on the Heck genforum. No one has ever come up with anything to challenge my theory. If you continue with your research you need to at least consider my theory. Also any serious researcher of "Daniel David" needs to look deeper into John (Johannes) Heck who owned land with D.D. in Rockbridge Co.,VA. He seems to be the John Heck who died in Montgomery Co.,OH in 1810. If you have not done so I suggest you also look at a book by Earl Leon Heck, also a descendant of D.D. It is also microfilmed by the LDS. Earl adds a few other things that Arch didn't cover. Good hunting.

My family's oral history says he is the brother of Nathaniel, Grover, Frank, Adam, and Lula Ann Carmack nee Heck all from Centrahoma but having originated in or around Claborne county Tn. His son was RL (Dutch) Heck who was my grandfather. My dad's name was Hayward D. Heck, now deceased as well. Do you have any information on these Hecks? The trail is cold before the 1910 Choctaw Nation (IT) census. Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated. Thank You Michelle Heck
