Edited by Francis Bazley Lee. Thomas, Conjectured son of Leonard Headley, was in Elizabethtown from 1700 to 1702, when his name appears on various papers and documents. Of his family nothing is definitely known, but it is conjectured from his being mentioned in the will of John Parker that there was some connection between the families of Headley and Parker, possibly Thomas's wife was a Parker. January 17, 1726, letters of administration were granted on the estate of John Clake or Clark to his "father-in-law" Thomas Headley. Thomas is also supposed to have been the father of Samuel Headley Sr., of Headleytown. All dates before the year 1752 started on March 25th. In the year 1752 they began on January 1st. --------------------------------- Historical Biography of Union County, Union Township, New Jersey: 1922 V.3 page #356. Members of the Headley family early came to Union county and have usually been prosperous farmers. The family was founded in this branch by Leonard Headley, who came from England prior to 1664 and settled in Elizabethtown, New Jersey. The line of descent of Union Township from Leonard Headley is through the latter's son, Thomas Headley, a farmer of Union county, New Jersey; his son Samuel Headley, born 1690 died 1755 and his wife Mary; their son Joseph Headley, born about 1718, died in October , 1785 (he was the owner of Vaux Hall, at Headley Town, New Jersey); his son John Thompson Headley, born 1751, died 1828, a soldier of the revolution, and his wife Catharine Smith; their son Issac S. Headley, born in Union county 1775, died 1862, a farmer and manufacturer of lumber; and his wife Julia King; their son Edwin Headley, and his wife Abby Fordyce; their son , James L. Headley, of the eighth generation of this family in Union county. ----------------- Genealogical and Memorial History of the state of New Jersey, Vol. 1, 1910, by Francis Bazley Lee, page 802-803. Shows 5 daughters born before 3 sons and youngest son Joseph born same year he and Mary were married. Samuel Headley married Mary Headley. She is noted to be daughter of Leonard and Sarah Headley, but the information is not documented (Per Ronald Headley--New York). Ronald also states she cannot be Leonards daughter as he has in his (Ronald's) charts, she would have had to be 35 years old when she married Samuel about 1717 and bore him 7 children. Her birthdate is after Leonard died. Ronald's Headley info says Samuel died in Union County, New Jersey, but Union County did not exist in 1755. Was after 1850 it came into existence. -------------------------------- Source of following info: Genealogical and memorial history of the state of New Jersey, vol. 1, 1910, by Francis Bazley Lee. Page 802-803. Samuel Headley was the founder of Headleytown, New Jersey. He and his family were members of the Presbyterian Church of Connecticut Farms, and they are buried there. Their graves are not marked. He and Mary had 3 sons and 5 daughters. ------------------------------ I show Samuel married to Sarah Dickerman in 1710 in New York, and she had son Isaac in 1714, she died 1715-1716. Then Samuel married Mary in 1717. ------------------------------------ Historical Biography of Union County, Union Township, New Jersey: 1922 V.3 page #356. This may not even be the line you are checking, but if they are, my sources are listed. Nancy
