We have a dead-end in our family line that I was hoping someone could help us out with: William Headley (or Hedley or Hadley) came to America (presumably from England) in 1854 with his wife Jane Hogg, and at least one child: A daughter named Elizabeth Headley - born April 1950 in England. They settled in Lake Township, Huron Co, Michigan. Elizabeth married Horace Sherman in 1869. The marriage was performed by William Headley, Justice of the Peace in Lake Township. There is a family story that goes along with this. We are always skeptical of family stories that cannot be verified, but hopefully someone out there may know something about this--espicially if anyone reading this is named "Summerskill": William Headley was allegedly ostacized from his family in England for marrying a "bar maid" (Jane Hogg). William Headley was said to have been related to the Summerskills of England, which also includes a Member of Parliament from the 1950s Baroness Edith Summerskill. Around 1910, a distant relative named John Hedley Summerskill caught up with the family (Albert Edward Sherman, son of Elizabeth Headley and Horace Sherman) then living in California. Mr. Summerskill married a daughter of Albert E. Sherman named Marjorie. We know the names of John Hedley Summerskill's parents (John Summerskill and Lucie Stoneman) -- however we cannot find the tie in with our Headley family in America. Nor can we trace our Headley family back to England. Any help or advice would be appreciated. If you know any Summerskills, feel free to forward this to them. Thanks Matt
