Benjamin Headley was a Politician and a farmer. He and Abigail left New Jersey a few years before 1800 and moved to Redstone, PA. Benjamin appeared in the 1800 tax list for Morris Twp., Green Co., PA. Benjamin had 9 boys and 3 girls. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Records of Benjamin and Abigail Headley Family: Benjamin Headley died before October 1838 in Coshocton County, Ohio. He died without a will, so in the settlement of the estate, Daniel Headley the son of Benjamin and John Henderson, son-in-law of Benjamin were appointed as administrators in the estate of Benjamin Headley in the settlement of his estate and distribution of money to the heirs. The children of Benjamin and Abigal as I observed records of Benjamin Headley. 1. Gabriel Headley born 1797. Born in Green County, Pennsylvania. Died after 1860 in Sullivan County Indiana. Married Elizabeth Graham 8 Feb 1821 in Tuscarsaus County, Ohio. Elizabeth died after 1880 in Sullivan County Indiana. Perhaps in the city of Merom. 2. Isaac Headley born 1798. Married Sarah Diehl. 3. David Headley born 1809, married Margaret Cathers 17 March 1833. David Headley died between 1860 and 1870 in Steuben County, Indiana. 4. John Headley born 1810, wife's name was Nancy. 5. Silas Headley born 1810, married Abigal Masters 8 Feb 1834, lived most of his life in Steuben County, Indiana. 6. Baldwin Headley born 1815, married Julia Phelps 18 Feb 1841 in Steuben County, Indiana. 7. Samuel Headley birth unknown, married Rhoda Cory 20 June 1839 in Steuben County, Indiana. Unable to find any records on Samuel Headley. He may have died at a younger age. Think most of his life was spent in Steuben County, Indiana. 8. Harrison Headley born 1818, married Malona Williams 5 Oct 1847 in Coshocton County, Ohio. Here I have listed 8 boys in the family of Benjamin and Abigal Headley. In a West Virginia record I received, they listed 9 boys and 3 girls. So, if this record is correct, I believe Arnold Headley may have been the 9th son. Benjamin and Abigal's three girls were: 1. Elizabeth Headley born 1796, married John Graham 4 Jan 1821 in Tuscarsaus County, Ohio. This John Graham is grandfather Headley's uncle on his mother's side. 2. Irena Headley married John Henderson 6 May 1823 in Coshocton County, Ohio. 3. Margaret Headley married Isaiah Thompson 7 Aug 1831 in Tuscarsaus County, Ohio. Some of these children were listed in the estate of Benjamin and Abigal Headley, in making a final settlement after 1838 after the death of Benjamin. Daniel and his brother-in-law John Henderson were appointed as administrators of this estate. Gabriel Headley bought land from the U.S. Government in 1835 in Coshocton County, Ohio. Isaac Headley bought land from the U.S. government in 1838 in Coshocton County, Ohio. This is perhaps the first land that Gabriel and isaac bought in Coshocton County, Ohio. In observing the records and deeds of Benjamin Headley in his settlement and the length of time his final settlement, Benjamin must have been quite wealthy. In the 1840 census of Steuben County, Samuel and Baldwin were living there at this time. Samuel had just married and Baldwin married shortly afterward. The census of 1840 gives record that Daniel, Samuel, Silas and Gabriel Headley were all living in Steuben County, Indiana. In 1850 Daniel and Silas were living in Sullivan County, Indiana. In 1860 Daniel Headley was back in Steuben County, Indiana. Later he died in Steuben County, Indiana. This Daniel was Benjamin and Abigal Headley's son. The 1850 census listed Rhoda Headley wife of Samuel as living in Steuben County, Ind. Therefore Samuel must have died in Steuben County, Ind. This Samuel is the son of Benjamin Headley. In 1850 John and Harrison Headley were listed as living in Coshocton County, Ohio. In 1850 Isaac and Gabriel were living in Union County, Ohio. In 1860 Gabriel and Harrison Headley were living in Sullivan County, Indiana, Jefferson Township. Harrison died about 1880 in Sullivan County, Indiana. --------------------------- New Jersey Book Of Wills (Document 7:37) John Brookfield, ESQ., Deceased (Orphans' Court September 1800).
