The following Hedley (Headlee) family is listed in the 1850 census for Whiteley Twp., Greene Co., PA. The 1850 census lists the names of everyone in the household. Note that most of the Headlees from the 1820 census seem to be gone by 1850. This is mainly because Whiteley Twp. was divided in 1842 to create a new township, Perry. Many of the 1820 Headlees were living in the portion of Whiteley Twp. which later became Perry; I'll send the names from the 1850 Perry Twp. census at a later date. Betty, I don't have anything on your Samuel, but here's something to keep in the back of your mind regarding his birthplace. In the late 1700s and early 1800s, what is now southwestern PA and northern WV was claimed by both PA and VA. So if Samuel was born in this area, his birthplace could arguably be given as either PA or VA. By the way, Greene County, PA is in this area, and there were quite a few Headleys there, so that might be a good place to look for Samuel. I have Samuel HEADLEY b 1802/1807 either in PA or VA (this information comes from the Census so I don't know which one is correct or if either is correct). I don't know who his parents were or when he died. I believe he died in Fulton Co, IL. He mar Rachel SCOTT b 1802/1805 in PA. The only child I know of is my 2g-grandfather John Barret HEADLEY b 5 June 1842 in VA/WVA and died 25 April 1917 in NE. John Barret mar Sarilda S. MAHANNAH August 1862 in Canton, Fulton Co, IL. Apparently the males in my HEADLEY line disliked their given names and used nicknames. John and Sarilda's children were Meridith (went by the name of Dan), Benton Eugene (went by the name of Jake), Andrew Jackson (went by the name of Jay), a son who died at age 3 went by Dockey and I doubt that was his given name, William, Rachel Ann and Mary Elizabeth. Meridith (Dan) HEADLEY said that his father also went by the name of Dan. True or not, I don't know. In the Fulton Co, IL, 1860 Census there was a Samuel HEADLEY living nearby. In the 1870 Census he is living next to John Barret who is living next door to his father Samuel. I am assuming this Samuel is related. Do any of these names appear in your line?

I have the book, " A Genealogical Record of the Descendants of Leonard Headley of Elizabethtown N.J." by Rev. A. J. Fretz should any of you need a look up. I descend from Joseph Headley, b. 3 Feb 1746, have all 12 of his children's names and the names of most of the spouses of those children. Although I descend from his son, Joseph Jr, I also have most of the descendents of Joseph Sr's youngest son, Amos, if any of you are related through Amos.
