Dear Friends, The President of the United States is threatening to veto the defense appropriations bill for fiscal year 2003. He intends to do this because the bill ends the concurrent receipt penalty for disabled veterans who are 60 per cent service connected disabled. Right now if a retired service person receives a pension of 2000 a month and for his missing leg he gets 1000 a month from the VA. His income is figured like this, 2000 dollar pension minus the 1000 dollar VA disability pay equals 2000 a month. That's right they retired veteran funds from his earned pension his own disability pay. The only benefit from the disability pay is the veteran does not pay SSI on the 1000 dollars. Please keep in mind how these individuals become 60 percent or greater disabled and ask the president to reconsider his decision to veto. Please click on the link below and contact President Bush now and please let your friends know of this and ask them to contact the president. http://www.fra.org/action/index.html
