    1. [HCGS] MEETING
    2. Casto, Ruby
    3. Once again we had a good turnout for the meeting with 16 members present. We voted to buy the two books on the John Pierce Duvall family which is being written by Diane Dieterle of Salt Lake City, UT. She has been in this area twice collecting and documenting information on the Duvall family and Bob and I met her both times. Darrell had information on the RICHMOND, VA trip which is to be September 17th-19th. Instead of taking a bus there will be two vans going and they can handle about 26 people. The cost per person will be $90.00 and that includes transportation and lodging, 2 nights. If you are interested in going or have told Darrell that you were going please contact him again so he can start his list over as some of the ones that signed up thought they were going by bus. His e-mail address is dew38@msn.com As of right now he is in contact with Super 8 Motel, but that could change. Darrell also had information on a Micro Film reader. We voted to buy a reconditioned one with the same guarantee as a new one, but if it is not available at this time, we will buy the new one. The reconditioned one will be around $750.00 and a new one $1950.00, plus S&H. We want to thank Barbara Hamilton and Dottie Riffle for getting the obits up to date. They did the year 2001 besides what was in two notebooks for 1983 and 1984 and have the 2002 caught up to date. Dottie also put the spirals on the Clark District Cemetery books which was desperately needed and we really do appreciate that. Every little bit helps to make an organiztion run smoothly. The annual picnic has been confirmed as being on Tuesday, August 13th at Lake Floyd which is on RT 50 West of Clarksburg. We meet around 5:00 P.M. and eat at 5:30 P.M. It is a covered dish affair with the society furnishing the hotdogs and hamburgers. Patricia Dennison mentioned a workshop and it was discussed with her being named as the chairperson. We would like to have it sometime in October since the Richmond trip is in September. If anyone has any ideas for classes or speakers, please get in touch with Patricia. Her e-mail address is triciad20@cs.com It was also discussed that we might hold it somewhere else other than the Waldomore and invite other groups to set up tables to sell their books. Dr. Gordon mentioned the shape that the Odd Fellows Cemetery on Chestnut Street is in and how many monuments have been thrown over. It needs to be restored to help beautify the city of Clarksburg. My thoughts, it would be nice if there was a committee gotten together and set a work day for the men and women of Clarksburg and the surrounding areas to work on a Saturday or a designated day to help clean up this cemetery. The date of the July meeting has been changed to July 12th since the first Friday is the 5th and so close to the 4th of July. John Hines gave the society more CD's to work with Family Tree Maker and also "Virginia Militia in the Revolution" and "Virginia Wills 1632-1800." Thanks John. There is a lot of work being done around the Waldomore and I'm sure when they get done it will look a lot better and be a more secure building. We want to see this beautiful old building preserved.
