RootsWeb.com Mailing Lists
Total: 2/2
1. [HCGS] HCGS Harrison County Genealogical Society & MyFamily.com
2. Dear Members, I sit here and wonder why there is not more activity on our two main sources of transferring and exchanging information. I am no expert on any of these. The club even has a web page for it's members. Click here: -- Harrison County Genealogy Society WEB Page We have the HCGS-L@rootsweb.com, a very visible means of exchanging information. It's a list you have to sign up for. Easy to send info to everyone who is on list. I will send this info this way today We have HCGS powered by MyFamily.com that will do a lot of nice things for you, if you use them. Let me talk on HCGS@My Family.com. I have been stumbling around on MyFamily.com sites for 3 years or more, never sure what I was doing, getting frustrated because of my lack of understanding what they wanted me to do. I have come to understand a little about it. As a user you cant hurt much but as an administrator you have your hands full. So stumble around and learn to use this concept. Some of its features: REVIEWS: You can write reviews on anything. HISTORY: Not sure what this does yet. NEWS: Nice feature, you can alert people about club happenings or other important things, like when Ruby was in hospital. Address Book: Unique you can put almost anything you want in here even the names you are researching. Calendar : Will publish and send out reminders on Birthdates, Anniversaries, Club Events, etc. File Cabinet: A great storage and retrieval spot for info even sound and video. Family Tree: You can build your own family tree file right on line. PHOTOS: You can add photos and even put them in albums. There are other items not turned on at this time. If I have made any mistakes please correct me. What I have found, seems HCGS@MyFamily.com must have started about NOV 2000. There are atleast 165 members listed in address book. Only about 50 have found and used it in 2 years. I will hopefully get back to this next week. I have to leave now I will be walking my sister down the aisle tomorrow morning to give her away. Probably wont get back to this till Tuesday of next week Oct 1, I plan on going to the meeting on Oct 4. Come and let me take your picture. Jim COTTRILL
