I found my husband's father's naturalization papers at the court house in Belmont County Ohio. He didn't come to this country until 1900. Reading something about the history of the Civil War and the history of the Irish in this country, it seems they got the Irish to enlist right off the boats by promising them money. Therefore they wouldn't have had time to become a citizen. Irene
Seems like I read somewhere that if an immigrant joined the military, the normal time required to become a citizen was shortened. - Sharon IDunlevy wrote: > I found my husband's father's naturalization papers at the court house in Belmont County Ohio.
