I am confused about the census books in the libraries. I wasted a lot of time yesterday going through Virginia census before l870 thinking that West Virginia area census was included--they didn't have West Virginia Census for any year. After all, when they took the census in what is now West Virginia, they took the census for Virginia! I couldn't find the family I was looking for. Then I found a CD and found a family I was looking for on the CD--I found it in 1860 census for West Virginia and when I went to get the spool, the guy looked at me strangely and said: that's impossible there is no West Virginia in l860. Well, I knew that--he got the spool and I found the family. The family was not in the Virginia census books I had been looking in so I went back to see what was going on and sure enough, West Virginia census has been excluded from these books. Why would they do that? and what has happened to the West Virginia Census books--they are not in any library I have looked in. Thanks for any enlightenment you can give me, Peggy Rifleman
