Dear Betty, Delighted to get your St. Patrick's day wishes. Will get back to you when I have more time to check dates, but Mary Ann Elder (1847-1938) was my great grandmother . Did your Mary Ann( Molly) marry James Radabaugh? I knew her father was John Elder. Her mother was a Sharp, according to her death certificate. Some where I found something to make me thing she was Charlotte, maybe a census record.. Do you remember Your " Grandma Radabaugh?" I do mine. I have her bible with Mary Ann Elder written in it. This is exciting, because every two-three years my husband and I go to Cannan Valley for a couple of days, and I know where Davis is. I also have found a Riley, but not as much info as you. Any info on Jesse or Elijah's wife, Sarah, would be greatly appreciated. According to a man that wrote The Colonial Riley's the first to come over from County Cavan was Miles Riley (Ryley) in 1635. > > Elder: My Elder's begin with John that lived in Harrison County bef 1810. He was born in Ireland to William Elder, wife unknown. Thanks to other researchers who have shared info. I have found my line of Elders (also they make my husband and me cousins as Agnes Riley married John Elder; and Fielding Riley, son of Jesse, married Margaret Elder, daughter of John and my ggrandmother was Mary Ann Elder, daughter of John R. Elder, Jr. who was the grandson of John R. Elder, Sr. and wife, Margaret McHenry. The Elders came to America prior to 1795. I don't know where in Ireland they were from, but from the fact that it was reported that they were Scotch Irish, I would guess Northern Ireland somewhere. > > I'm sure there are others of Irish descent in both of our families, but these are two of the main ones. > I'll be happy to share info with anyone on any of the names above or the ones listed below and Happy St. Patrick's Day to everyone. > Betty > > Betty Evans Riley Box 540, Davis, WV 26260 > > Researching: EVANS: Wales>Pa.>Va>(W)V (Monongalia>Tyler Counties) > DENBOW Md>Ohio; ROGERS-Oh; GRAHAM: Pa. Hi Jean, Thanks for writing. First let me get this out of the way, our mailing address is Davis but we live in Old Timberline in Canaan Valley, so maybe you have been close to us at some time, we will have to see and get together someway because if we can't connect with Mary Ann, we can in the generation before that I bet. Anyhow, on to Mary Ann, I don't have her married to James Radabaugh, but to William David White. I don't know if she remarried after his death in 1890 or not, but I don't have any record of it. They had several children: Daniel Newton-my grandfather married Nancy Baker; Melvin Lee-died in Midland, Texas, Bertha Sofrona or Sophronia; Laura Alice (died when 8); Ida who married a LeMasters; Homer; Savilla Catherine (died at 8 months of age); Eliza Jane married E. B.Bond; and an unnamed child that lived one day. I have a photo of Mary Ann with Homer; Lee; Bertha and Daniel Newton and Mary Ann was probably about age 50. Don't remember any mention of a Radabaugh, so I'm thinking that maybe one of John (lst) sons or grandsons had a son they named John and he had a daughter named Mary Ann. Do you have any info on the John-where he lived, birth or death dates, etc? John Elder, Jr. was born 31 Jul 1796; married 9 Dec 1819 both in Harrison County and died 3 Oct 1877 in Alvy, Tyler, (W)V. He is buried on Big Run in Tyler County. John Sr. had the following sons (and this may be where another John came in that had the Mary Ann??) William Kedrick b 1 Mar 1806 in Harrison and died 11 Mar 1891 at age 85 but I don't have where. His wife was Ruanna Willis. Samuel Elder b 1818 (no other info). But there were lots of other Elders also. I just found a big error in my work as I have two different father's for my John, Jr. so I'd better do some more research. Oh well, there is so much to keep up with and it gets soooo confusing doesn't it. Will let you know which I find is right, but the dates indicate that John Jrs. parents must have been Joseph and Elizabeth (Betsy) Shields. Just looked up where Bellefonte, Pa. is located and found that you are very close to State College, Pa. A friend that has a house here lives in State College somewhere so maybe you know them: Bill and Honey Jaffee?? Another that I have met that is a relative of Bill's is Jim Hoover and he lives with wife, Michelle, somewhere around State College. If you would like more Riley info or something I have on the Elders, let me know and I'll be happy to send it to you. Just give me a little time to get it together as my husband is waiting for a call regarding surgery and that will put a stopper on things for a time. Also don't forget, let me know when you come to Canaan. Where do you all stay and do you come summer or winter?
