Does anyone remember exactly when the Point Comfort School was torn down? Fred Layman said the school (West Pike Street, Clarksburg) closed in 1964. A friend is seeking the newspaper article written about the school (and its area history) when it was torn down. She believes her ancestor, Henry Harper and his wife, Sarah (Matthews) Harper ran an inn in this area. The article is supposed to say something about Sarah running a seamstress business at the inn. The HC 1840 census supposedly names Henry Harper's occupation as an "inn keeper". When you think about it, "Point Comfort" does sound like a likely name for a place of rest (inn)! Does anyone know more about Point Comfort? I am embarrassed to say I rode right past Point Comfort School on the school bus for years and never knew the name of it. <Sharon><
