We live in Tx and we lease our mineral rights to gas drillers. They came to our neighborhoods and offered everyone money. We signed for a 3 year lease deal. Wells were put up and some produced and some did not and were capped. They send checks every few months...not much money. They paid us to sign with them and it went by how much land we had. We live in the suburbs so we don't have alot of land. Hope this helps you. It is different in every state. I would contact neighbors in the area and see what they say.
