I was planning on going today. The Daniel Davisson DAR Chapter participates in the Naturalization Ceremonies in Clarksburg and my Mother fell there. She was feeling bad this morning so didn't want to leave her. -----Original Message----- From: Ruby Casto <recasto47@frontier.com> To: Harrison County Genealogical Society <hcgs@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sat, Jun 1, 2013 4:24 pm Subject: [HCGS] MEETING The Harrison County Genealogical Society held their regular monthly meeting this date with 8 members and 4 guests in attendance. It was good to have Bob Blankenship back with us from Ohio. David said the genealogy class was well attended on the 23rd of May. It was sponsored by the LDS, DAR, SAR and the HCGS. He said there were 58 persons in attendance and that Mr. Bob Fish was dressed as a Va Militia Officer. The picnic was discussed and it will be held in the Maple Shelter at Norwood Park on the 12th of August at 5:00 P.M. Susan House will be helping Diana with it this year. It was announced that Janet Pratt will be taking over as editor of the newsletter and she needs to get together with Diana Johnson so she can get things set up with Pre Sort out of Fairmont to mail the newsletters. Janet was not at the meeting today. Kristen Haggerty from Lincoln High School was one of the winners of the scholarships and she was in attendance with her parents Allen and Lori Haggerty along with her grandmother Sandra Haggerty. She will be attending West Liberty College in Wheeling and will be studying chemistry and wants to teach or maybe work for the FBI. The other winner was Lauren McCarthy from Bridgeport High School but she was unable to attend the meeting today. David said the roof is just about done and that we should be able to meet upstairs on the 2nd floor at the July meeting. David bought a book on the VA Militia of 1812. Harold Reed had a clipping out of the Ritchie County paper and I did not get the date of the article. He would like to know if anyone knows the lady in the article. It is Kathy Reed a member of the Ohio Valley Chapter, NS-DAR & State Chairman of Genealogy Preservation. David gave an interesting talk about the Revolution War pensioners. The next meeting will be held on July 6th.
