Good sentiments Ruby Happy Birthday West Virginia to the youngest state east of the Mississippi River. The summer family reunion season is upon us. Be sure to get your announcement of your reunion to Dick Wilt so that he can include it on the website. Does anyone have any advice on things which worked or did not work for a reunion? Be sure to have someone bring a lap top computer and a scanner or digital camera to the reunion. Preferably have two people come equipped. Don’t forget an electrical extension cord with a power strip. The electrical outlets are never where you need them to be. Don’t set up too close to where food and drink are served and consumed. You don’t want any accidents. Bring a supply of blank CDs with you so that copies can be made for those who want them. I have been pricing CDs, DVDs and zip drives. I did not find any particularly good deals at Wal Mart or Office Depot. I think 100 CD-R were $23 and DVD-R were $34. No one would talk zip drives in quantity. A cousin mentioned that she had seen 2 GB zip drives for $3 each in quantity. Packaging and postage may be your biggest cost if you mail CDs or DVDs. Cloud storage sites such as Google and Drop Box should be considered. Many people are computer challenged. So, to help them with access to a cloud storage site, consider setting up an instruction sheet with blanks for people to fill in their e-mail and password which they will use to set up their cloud storage account. If you have Wi Fi at the reunion site, help them set up access to the cloud storage site at he reunion and demonstrate how to download files from the site. Whenever possible, do not leave anything up to chance. If there is a library near the site, consider meeting your computer challenged folks at the library to use the library’s on-line computer access. I suggested to one cousin that using rewriteable CD-RW might be the way to go. She said that folks would not remember them the next year. Dave, I am offering my sympathy to the Kuhl family in the recent death of Beverly Byers Kuhl. Beverly and I worked at Sidney Barber and Beauty Supply back in the 60's. Her Mother served the food at the reception of my youngest daughters first wedding at the Adamston Methodist Church which is now the Christ United Methodist Again my deepest sympathy.
