I am doing some work on a Smith family who descended from Watters Smith for distant cousins. Ask me about your needs in a couple of weeks. There is an old album filled with mostly Smith pictures but also Watson, Bailey, Steorts, Gaston, Carr. Many of the pictures are not identified. CENSUS / ORDER OF VISITATION: - With the exception of the Smiths listed, these people provided depositions for John Smith's Civil War widow's pension . Many names are associated with the town of Good Hope. House: #600 - Watters Smith(b1805 VA) - Age possibility for parenting of John E. Smith - but John is not listed as a son in this family. #618 - James Sommerville- Father of deponent John Sommerville. (lived ¼ mile from K. Frashuer at time he gave CW deposition, in Good Hope). #696 - Samuel Lanham. Father of deponent William Lanham, soldier with John Smith., was b1840, age 10 in 1850 census - gave deposition for Kincheloe Frashuer pension. #742 - William Perine #743 - Kincheloe Frazier(sic) soldier who served with John, said to have lived near where John Smith was raised #746 - David W. Frazier(sic) father of soldier Kincheloe Frazier #728 - James Stonestreet. Father of deponent Samuel C. Stonestreet, b1839, age 11 in 1850 census & fellow soldier, who gave deposition for K. Frashuer’s pension. #857 - Robert & Rebecca Burnsides. Parents of deponent Isaac Burnsides (b1843) who said he lived7 miles from K.Frashuer, at time of his deposition. (Other Frazier families lived near Burnsides, in Houses #852, #855) #883 - Sarah Perine, mother of deponent Isaac Wm. Perine, age 17, in 1850 Census. Isaac lived½ mile from K. Frashuer at time of deposition, in Avon, Doddridge Co. Knew Kincheloe for 50 years. Perines are related to Frashuers #924 - Christian Smith(b1794 Maryland) -age possibility for parenting of John E. Smith. Couldn't find John listed as son here, either. 1860 HARRISON CO. CENSUS /ORDER OF VISITATION: (John E., James L., & Samuel Davisson Smith living next to each other has always intrigued me. I cannot find parents for John, but James & Samuel Smith’s parents are Isaac & Mary (Davisson) Smith.) - the Aaron Smith line. House: #1023- JOHN E. SMITH(wife/Charlotte HYDE) appears to be living in the same house in 1860 that Isaac & Mary Davisson Smith occupied in 1850 - (figuring the number of families away from James Marsh in EACH census). #1028-James L Smith (s/o Isaac & Mary) born 1824, at Rock Camp Harrison Co. (wife/Martha Marsh; a son is named Isaac) #1172-Samuel D. Smith (s/o Isaac & Mary) wife/Charlotte Marsh - Samuel, born in Indiana #1605-Kincheloe Frazier(son of David) - neighbor/soldier with John Smith when he died, Civil War #1955-Peter & Margaret HYDE(bro-in-law of John Smith - Jarvisville, Union Twp) #1968-David FRAZIER- who lived near where John Smith was raised. I'm hoping this will generate some ideas for the newsletter and the HCGS website. My genealogy wish is: I would like to identify the parents of John Greathouse who married Sarah McDade, daughter of James McDade. It's possible that John's father could be a Harrison County Greathouse, but have no concrete proof. There were Greathouses who settled in the northern panhandle of WV, so that is another area of possibility for his parents. Those of you on HCGS list, please let us know what your genealogy wish is.
