    3. David Houchin probably wouldn't remember me. I am just one of the many people that he has helped over the years. But I remember him very well. I live in Cincinnati now, so much of my WV genealogy is done long distance. Of course, when I do travel to WV to visit my family in Morgantown I try to sneak in as much research as I can. About a year and a half ago I drove in from Cincinnati, left my kids with my family in Morgantown, and headed off with plans to spend an entire day in the courthouse in Clarksburg. I cannot even tell you how much I had been looking forward to that day! So many answers were waiting for me there! Well, when I arrived at the courthouse, briefcase in hand, I found the front door locked. In fact, I soon discovered that all the doors were locked. When planning my trip, I had not taken into account that it would be "West Virginia Day" and that the courthouse would be closed. I was near tears, but I decided to salvage as much of the day as possible by doing what research I could at the Waldomore. I got directions and walked over to the library, anxious to see what I could find. When I arrived at the main library, the librarian informed me that the Waldomore was closed for renovations. I remember standing outside in front of the Waldomore, sobbing in the rain, just miserable about my luck, when David appeared. After listening patiently to my sob story, David guided me safely past the renovations and spent the next two hours helping me find some fascinating tidbits of history for my book on my mother's maternal line. I will never forget the kindness that he showed to me there in the Waldomore on West Virginia Day.
