    1. [HCGS] Family Finder DNA Group for HCPD? WV DNA Project in In Place
    2. Paul Pettit
    3. In July, I established a West Virginia DNA Project.... I made a request to have this project endorsed by the HCPD board, to be linked on the HCPD webpage and published and advertised in the Journal. A flyer was provide to be posted at the Gathering as well. Sometimes the wheels of progress move slowly. I asked certain people about establishing such a Project at FTDNA for WV roots over a year ago and no one wanted to do that then. Having a project for HCPD, is a bit narrowly focused and would set a precedent for establishing a Project for every Creek in West Virginia. West Virginia- seems to an appropriately identifiable geographic range for both non Society member of any as well as public DNA participants who develop their own interest. FTDNA does not like to set up Projects that are in competition. Since I contacted Betty and Joy back in July and August I have not heard back anything. Perhaps, there is a problem with HCPD in supporting DNA project. I have also run into problems with other WV genealogical "networks" in progressing forward and making available the information about the newly formed West Virginia DNA Project. Individuals who have not obtained a test can join directly with the WV DNA project at the link below and order a test. If one already has a test http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=West_Virginia If one already has a test, then use your Join button on your results webpage to go to DUAL GEOGRPAHIC Project on FTDNA's Project Webpages, to join your kit. http://www.familytreedna.com/projects.aspx http://www.familytreedna.com/surname-projects.aspx?let=W&projecttype=DG Paul Pettit Project Adminstrator West_Virginia DNA Project

    3. Perhaps a lot of people want more information about this type of project. Here is a Family Tree DNA site url that lists questions and answers that people might have. Be sure to read all the way to the bottom. This type of testing is an expensive undertaking and sometimes the answers are not always satisfactory. I run 2 surname projects with FTDNA and definitely support dna testing. It is a wonderful tool but we still have to do our paper trail.
