    1. [HCGS] MEETING
    2. Ruby Casto
    3. The Harrison County Genealogical Society held their regular monthly meeting this date with seven members in attendance. We had one of our new members, John Carney, in attendance and it is always good to meet our out of town members. Due to the absence of the President, Ted Wolfe, Diana Johnson, Vice President conducted the meeting. She is very efficient as she had an itinerary printed out for each one of us. Due to the absence of the treasurer, David, read both the minutes and the treasurer's report. David had gotten several books since last meeting and I did not get the names of all of them, but here are a few; Mining Disasters 1830-2000; Life at Lynchburg by Paul E. Maxwell; Index to Westmoreland County, Pa. wills 1773-1896 and the Yesteryear books by Bill Adler of Lewis County, WV for years 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990 and 1991. The September newsletter was printed and after the meeting we all stayed and got it ready to mail. Our little 5 year old Jacob was a great help in taking them to the next person for labels. Thanks Jacob. We told the new member John about our scholarship fund and that we present two $500.00 scholarships each year to a graduating senior. We also had a discussion on our picnic last month and even though it was hot everyone had a good time and plenty of food. The trip to Washington, DC was discussed and anyone that is planning on going needs to contact David and give him your phone number and assurance you are going. The DAR was meeting downstairs and David told them he needs to have a total number going by next Saturday. He will make plans for a pickup coming back home to be made at Constitutional Hall instead of making them walk back to the Archives, as that would be a long walk for many of them. [email protected] The Pedigree charts was discussed and Ethel has the indexing up to date and if you have not sent yours in yet and want to , please send them to Diana asap as she would like to have them in by the end of December. She wants to have them ready for printing by April 2011. [email protected] We had a discussion on our Christmas dinner and no plans have been made yet and we named several restaurants that we can have it: Parkette, FOP in Nutter Fort, Raymon's, Ryan's, Village Square, Applebees and EatNPark. What day would you like to have it and give us some idea of which restaurant you would like. We need this info by the October meeting. I volunteered to take care of this but I will need a response from you if you plan on [email protected] We also discussed a place for our annual picnic next year. Watter's Smith Park and the new picnic grounds at the 4-H Center was named. Diana Johnson is going to take care of this. We also need to know which place you would rather go or if you have someplace in mind. [email protected] One thing we didn't mention was if we were going to work the Apple Butter Festival in Salem this year. Today was David's birthday so we had a birthday cake for him and hope he has had a very nice birthday. Once again thanks for all who helped get the newsletter ready for mailing.
