    3. Hi all,   Have you ever heard of "R.L.Cunningham" undertaker, or funeral home ??   I just found my great grandmother's death record (after 15 years of searching !) and it lists "R.L.Cunninghan" as the 'undertaker'.    Location was Marion County, WV...I am thinking Fairmont, but could be wrong.   I want to find the location of her burial.  This would of been in 1911.   If you have any thoughts or ideas on how I can find out, please let me know.   Thank you so much !!!   Mary

    3. Congratulations on your wonderful find! My great-grandmother, Concetta Pellegrini, died in 1920 and R.L. Cunningham was listed on her death record also. Concetta lived in Monongah and her funeral was probably held in the Italian church in Monongah but she was buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Fairmont. 3. Mary, I Googled "R.L. Cunningham, undertaker" & got the pension records of a WV Union veteran named John Mort who died in 1905. The widow's residence was Fairmont and the P.O. was listed as Palatine, Marion Co. The subject was his undertaker. My experience with birth and death records in Marion Co. has been very good as far as access and ease of seeing them, but I did all of that in person. Since I got all I needed/wanted while I was there, I have not tried to access them online. God Bless the USA! 3. Mary what is your great grandmothers name and her dates would be helpful as well. The more information you can give on a person the better someone else can help. Try putting her name in the Bing or Goggle search engine and see what comes up. 2. Mary, Hello, my first thoughts would be to call some of the funeral homes in that area. Perhaps some of those people may be able to give you some leads or at least point you in correct direction. 3. GoogleWVVRR. That will get you to the WV website for birth, marriage and death records. Then select death records. Then select Marion County. Then select the year your grandmother died. Browsing those death records will give you an idea of what cemeteries were served by R. L. Cunningham.    Check her near relatives to see where they were buried.   Put together a query for the Marion genweb site.  Google WVGENWEB to find the site. Put together a query to share with other HCGS members and perhaps someone will find some record in addition to what you have found. Locating an obituary would be a good prospect. Is the church known?  Are church records available?  Published? Someone made the decision to bury her wherever she was buried.  If she had no living near relatives, there is a good chance that folks at her church made the final decisions.   Did she own any property?  The census may tell you if she was renting or owned. Did she have a will?  Probate records may tell you more about her.   Make careful notes on wherever you search.  Also record the date that you make these searches. More records are being converted and made available all the time.  Make lists and check them twice.  Search methodically and orderly and these brick walls will usually come tumbling down.   A relative recently found interesting information in a Florida state census conducted in 1945.   Does anyone know if WV conducted state census?    My genealogy society here in Mississippi published several school census.   Does anyone know if WV conducted school census?    The school census here seem to have been conducted at the time of WW I probably because of significant growth in the area for people coming here to work in the shipyards and the need to build new schools to accommodate the influx of people.   Property records, tax lists, voter registration, city directories, and other records are becoming accessible.  Don’t give up.  Persistence pays off.  Dave Kuhl 210 Glen Eagles Drive Ocean Springs, MS 39564-9041 e-mail: [email protected] ----- Original Message ---- From: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Thu, September 9, 2010 8:07:31 AM Subject: Re: [HCGS] Question ?
